Sony's new flagship 2014 - MDR-Z7

I've not heard the Night Hawks, but I've heard of them having Build Quality with things like the Hinges an other key compents :/

sound wise I've seen the charts an they seem to measure really well!

You mean build quality issues?
They are superbly built but I wondered about the hinges to the earcups, yes. They're not meant for outside us this being said, I am not really concerned about breaking them.

Aside from the charts, there is something particular about their being linear and dynamic at the same time, people have a hate/love response to them but the Z7 has been a bit like that too. It comes down to personal preferences.

I'd say the NightHawks are livelier, faster with mids being more forward. Bass are less powerful but better defined (the difference is less important if you have modded you Z7 or kimber cables).

Hmm that's good to here the Night Hawks are on my list of "listenables"

still I'm happy with the MDR Z7, this unit is modded, but it's not "mine" really though I'd like to here how the Night Hawk Compares to the HE 4, kinda like how the MDR Z7 compares to my LA D5k mod vs mod

I don't know the HE4, so I can't provide any feedback. One thing is you go audition a pair of NH, make sure they're burnt in and also give them a chance, this guy did even after a bad first impression and he did not regret it :)

They share some DNA, but the Z5 have more sparkle, clarity and transparency the Z7 have of the advantage of full size headphones with wider soundstage and less impactful but more powerful bass. The Z7 are more relaxed overall.

I have both Z7 and th900. They are both worth buying. However, if you do not plan on modifying anything, then I would suggest you to go for Fostex. They have excellent sound signature out of the box. If you want to tinker with your gear, buy both, you can visit Z7 mod thread

If anyone wants to know what a TH-X00 sounds like, just read any review of a D5000, the TH-X00 uses the same drivers, same pads, and same cup depth;;;; it's a revived and rebranded Denon D5000. Trust me, I've disassembled MANY of them already.

IMO (<<Bold, Italics, and underlined) The Z7, all day.

The Z7 feels more solid, you can tell it had much better engineering just based on how it's tuned, and is worlds more comfortable STOCK. Why do you think you don't see anyone pad swapping on the Z7? It's because it is at the highest comfort as it could be when it left Sony. If I won a TH-900, I swear to god I would sell it and buy a Z7 and a steak dinner.

Sorry Fostex lovers, Z7 wins.

I was talking to someone because i told them that i want both of the z7 and the fostex, however the person said that both of the headphones are very similar and there would be no point in getting both of them. is this true? i mean i always wanted a woodie, but i must say that the construction of the z7 is amazing with the magnesium housing and the sheer lightness of the headphones, not to mention it is also made in Japan. Also due to the decline in the Canadian dollar the THX00 would cost nearly $600 CAD i can get the z7 for like $500 CAD. Feel free to voice your opinions people!!
