When I take the RWAK240 and the SE5 out in public, women start tearing my clothes off. This hobby is starting to cost me a lot in indirect costs.

Sorry to disappoint you, but they are looking for your wallet.
I have a RWAK240 and SE5. Do you think my wallet contains anything?

I sure hope that nobody here had to sell off their kidneys for money to buy an AK240!

I am too old, so I sold one of son's retinas

I have Anakchan's RWAK240 here now, along with the rest of the collection we have amassed. Initial comparisons have the RWAK240 providing a darker, more bass-extended sound that includes darkening the mids, something that is noticeable on vocal tracks. It isn't a huge difference -- on a lot of music it isn't so noticeable, maybe even barely so on some. Note decay feels longer on the RWAK240, even if it may not really be. It feels like individual notes have more presence, if not the music in general.

hmm, sounds like I would like the AK240 better overall.

Yeah, indeed. It seems to depend on the IEMs used, but sometimes I find the mod too much. I was listening with the X5 and my UERMs and then the RWAK240, which made me feel that way. I think the mod would most benefit someone who wants to use the AK240 with full-sized headphones as much as IEMs.

Thanks for this. Sometimes things tempt for no good reason. I love the stock clarity and transparency with my UERM.

What iem would you say is the best with the stock AK240? I wanted to go for a CIEM but I'm 16 and don't want to reshape my ciem if my ear shape changes. From what I know, your ear shape might change if you're age is under 20 or so. :p
I'm thinking of SE846, IE800, or something like that.

One with a detachable cable for a start! Other than that, I'd choose an IEM depending on the music you like. The AK240 is of most benefit when listening to, say, high-quality jazz or classical recordings. The stuff I listened to when I was 16 wouldn't have been worth an AK240 IMO (and sounded downright odd played through my father's hi-fi system) so you might want consider things from the perspective of the music you like primarily and especially if you already have an iPhone and don't have any high-res music.

It's better to get the IEM that best suits your preferences first and then get the AMP / DAC that best pairswith the IEM.
A system should always be built around the IEM / Headphone / Speaker, not around the AMP / DAC imo.

I listen to anything you can imagine from Screaming Jay Hawkins, AC/DC, Amy Winehouse, John Coltrane, Mendelssohn, etc. I've got almost 3tb of CD+ quality music so I wanted something portable I can depend on to use at audio shows, my favourite audio shop, my friend's house, on a bus, etc. I just don't know much about iems because I didn't like them until maybe a few months ago; back then I thought they will damage my ears or something. This all changed just because I want to enjoy music outside of my house with my music that I know well. I guess I'll have to actually try things out for myself for at least a few months now. I've tried most headphones I can think of but probably haven't listened to iems seriously(ever). It's hard to like audio at age of 16 for most people I guess.:p

I think the same way. I will have to try to have serious listening with IEMs now for a while.

@Jeff Y Glad to hear about the music. I wanted to be sure though that this wasn't going to result in buyer's remorse. I'd get yourself to a local meet if you can, or local store that stocks IEMs and try a few. You listen to quite a variety of music.
