Got the same combo...

Ultrasone made the worst sounding overpriced stuff.. they sell leather, metal , a good design and a BAD sound imho...
I'm experience the same with ED 5...

Sorry, can't agree with you. I think they are the best headphones which can be pushed well only by HUGO directly without using table stuff. Quite an easy and portable way to enjoy the music.

+1  Unbelievable bad sound for that price ...
Impossible to listen to any kind of music.
Hugo or no Hugo!

Maybe they are good for other things …

Perhaps Ear Protectors/Ear Muffs ...

Yeah, I didn't have a good experience with my Ultrasone. It wasn't terrible, but the sound made me kind of nervous for some reason. Not for the highs or anything, it was just some sort of non-musicalness that made me uneasy. And the ear-area was tight in width and depth, so comfort was an issue too.

I get a blue light and immaculate sound from the Computer via optical cable (I believe it's the one that came with the Hugo). So I think it's either a dirty cable (or receiver?) or some issues on the AK100's optical out.

Not a loose connection perhaps? Hugo is a bit finicky in that regard. I recently got a Chord Optichord great sound but loose in the socket falls out as easy as

I cleaned the cable ends and problem fixed, thanks for the tips

I have had the Hugo for a month now, I expected this to be something I would buy, confirm that it didn't make enough difference to justify the price, and sell it on.

I was wrong.

Still totally thrilled with it, probably the best upgrade since I got my first decent headphones. I really don't use all of it's features, it sits on the desk plugged in to my iMac or Macbook Pro via USB driving a pair of headphones, but, this is perfect for me. I can take it with me when I am working onsite, can use it while I travel, but mainly when I'm at home late at night enjoying some nice music and relaxing.

The only downside is that I don't get to bed early enough anymore because I can't drag myself away :)

I bought mine from

Unfortunately, I don't think they ship outside of China, and I have no experience with the seller you chose.

The price isn't particularly unusual for a Chord Hugo in China though, since many of them appear to be imported from Japan, where the price is pretty low.

The Hugo isn't that cheap in Japan by a long shot.

That's strange...the Taobao store I bought it from says they're imported from Japan.

Perhaps it's possible that the dealer price in Japan is that cost? A lot of Taobao stores in China sell *barely* above dealer cost.
