Guys, did you see X5's review at headfonia? For me it is slightly different than the impressions posted here (headfonia seems to suggest that X5 is rather warm/musical than neutral player with slight warmth).

Yep I did not relate to this review...I often do not relate with his views...except on the Tera.

Yep, doesn't really line up with our impressions so far. I don't know why but felt something was in the air with that review. My internet instincts were twitching. I'll know soon enough, couple of weeks off if all goes smooth.

You have to try really hard to find warmth in the X5. Listening to it for the last 5 hours and its very clean, transparent and pleasing compared to the X3.

Now the X3 is warm but the X5 is in no way warm and I tested it with different headphones and even plugged it in my car.

The performance in my car stereo was mind-blowing and my personal X5 will live its life in its confines.

Obviously there is a question why headfonia's review is so different? Of course, people differ in their opinions, in particular as to the sound, but such a big (at least for me it is big) difference is somehow strange.

I find it comparatively warm to other non FiiO units. But neutral compared to FiiO units.

It is all how you look at it

It's also depend on your prior experience with different players. I have listened to players from both ends, like the older iPods which are considered warmer to the bright ones like the iPod touch. The X5 seems to stand in between hence I like to call it neutral. It is very difficult to place it on one end of the scale or the other because of that. One thing is for sure, you have to hear it to get the player's sound feeling, I like to think that this player has a 3D sound to it, you can really feel the frequency range precisely and its depth. To running the risk of sounding one sided, it is hard to believe the sound that is coming out of the player. Once you hear it, it can only be one step forward but never backward, you definitively get spoiled, very addictive.

Just a quick side question: I currently also have the X3 and am waiting for the X5...I would like to hear them through

the car...would you mind suggesting the best way to connect the player in the car...

Line output of X3 or X5 using 3.5mm cable into however you want to connect it to the car

The headphonia review is a personal one. He did say he prefered the sound to all other sub $1k DAPs he's reviewed. Fiio's signature character is one of good weight and fullness. I'm sure it's warmer than the AK but he never said it was too warm and why he preferred it. AK players are very resolved. Those that prefer other things do so more because of things like PRAT or perspective.
The size, UI, looks and weight are all very eye of the beholder type evaluations. I suspect that he overstated to get his point across but I don't have a huge problem with a review that say it's the best sounding thing inder $1k when it's only 1/3rd that price.

Agreed!
I did find it a bit warm but I was directly comparing it with the AK100 MK2 so...

does the X5 support crossfeed? And if not would there be plans to include it?

Not so far. I can't see it being implemented until they get the bugs sorted out first. You could always go to their bugzilla site - and make it a requested feature. At least that way they could consider it.

Hi I have an IPOD Classic 120 gb running in team with my three amps: Meier Stepdance /Fiio E12/Fiio E12 DIY. I am very pleased with each of those combos, They all sound soo good. And the IPOD still has such a good interface and usability. I can imagine that the FIIO X3/5 or the new Sony Walkmans we all know are audible better than the unamped IPOD classic, but can someone qualify how much better a X5 sounds compared to an amped IPOD classic that does so well as I feel right now. You see I am a little tired of the next new toy when there is no real improvement. my desk s already crowded with amps, cans, iems and DAPs. Sometimes it takes just too long to stack away all this properly.
