Aurisonics ROCKETS: Impressions Thread

Woke up this morning with obvious congestion making my left ear feel stuffy and closed... Until I realized one of the tips from my Rockets was stuck in there. Methinks this is a downside to falling asleep with these babies in and pulling them out at some random point while asleep... Don't try this at home, kids.

I'm glad it was the GR07BE tip that got left behind rather then the smaller one on the Rockets. BE tip left behind=careful removal by me, ROCKETS tip left behind=visit to the local doctor and a wallet $170 lighter.

When that happens I use a pencil or a pair of tweezers and go fishing, but that's just me.

A man braver then I. I would be tempted to grab the tweezers but would ultimately end up at the doctors office for fear of making it worse.

I use my leatherman pliers (seriously). I've taken out the er4s triple-flange tips, a pfe112 tip and another er4s tip. haha Not too bad, just need to carefully grab the tip and not your ear and then squeeze hard and pull it out gently.

On another note, I wear my er4s pretty deep as expected, securely in the ear. I fell asleep with them in my ears two nights ago and woke up with them out of my ears. That's scary. I can't even imagine someone yanking them out of my ears, let alone me tossing and turning them out. ha

I didn't actually realize it was the IEM tip until I'd already showered and started to clean my ears with a q-tip (I don't go super deep, I just clean a little ways in, particularly if I get water in my ears during the morning rituals). I was able to pull mine out with the q-tip, no harm, no foul.

Also, I looked at it more closely yesterday when I got back from work, and it looks like the tri-tab had crept up into the notch that holds the IEM tip, which I'm guessing pushed the tip up and made it easier to pop off. The tri-tab on the right side had started sliding onto the notch as well. Probably something to take a look at every so often to make sure they don't come off .

After sliding the tri-tabs back down and making sure the tips were secure, I listened to the Rockets as I fell asleep last night with no problems, and plan to continue to listen to them each night. They're too good not to.

Gents, it seems I'm in the middle of a rock(et) and a hard place. The GR07BE sound more powerful all round down low but the Rockets are close enough now that the ranking will change. Would I rather have Tenores less clear but more prominent bass, or more clarity but less prominence?

The Rockets sub bass is now high enough where I don't know the answer to this question. I would really have to A/B them and even then... I feel I could provably go both ways. Hell, I'm A/B'ing the Rockets/BE and having a hard ass time.

Therefor, the ranking would have to go:

Bass:
GR07BE>=Tenore=Rockets>KC06...

But hold your nekos. Nya? Yes! Nya!

GR07BE still not surpassed?

Listening to the song I posted, as well as others like the one below, leaves me once again wanting my GR07BE's low end prowess to at least be matched(quality and quantity). This must happen before I hand off the burning NekomimiGlobeofAwesome™ to another phone within the criteria for phone number one. It Must!

The GR07BE simply has a thicker? output down low that gives it the perfect amount of growl for my taste, run neko RUN! However! The edge of the bass thump is exquisite, a GR07 BE match and so a Tenore slaughter duo there. The presence of rumble is a touch(touch) too low given the rest of the sound sig. Presence aside, I find it just as well textured as my GR07 BE. RealTalk™ hombres.

Simple brake down:

GR07BE's have superb quality/quantity, Tenore's have good quality and superb quantity, Rockets have superb quality and good quantity.

Scale:
Superb(AKA RainbowNeko)
Good
Adequate
Poor
Horrible(AKA DeadNeko)

For phone number 1, I look for sub and mid-bass that's perceived about equal, or higher sub-bass. All while positioning it up a touch from neutral. Whatever GR07 BE's do... Basically that.

Phone number two would basically add "PAwaR!" to the above requirements. What is transcending and how much do I need? All of it and then some, that's how much.

I would also include the rockets in the list of phones I would lean towards. Yes, they were that close and bass is that important to me. Come at me brotherin.

Interesting snippet:

Normally I would go 5 down from max for music where I want to enjoy the low end specifically. I now find myself comfortably settling at 6 down for the Rockets. I don't know what the db difference is but I thought you guys might find this useful. I would still want to hit 5 down to better match my BE but given the rest of the signature is also being raised, 6 is good.

Also, I've been known to hit treble reducer on my iPhone and upping the volume in a attempt to get phone number 2 bass out of phone number 1. I shouldn't say try, the GR07 BE handles it fantastically. Sometimes leading me to say ASG who? Dam strait son... Dam strait. Come at me Eke.

All else stays the same as far as I can tell but I've been focusing primarily on the low end. I have limited time at the moment but missed some sleep to get this out, who needs sleep right.

Nothing like sitting in you room at 3AM, staring at the wall while wondering what it is you're doing with your life. Or pondering why the celling is textured, doesn't that just make it more prone to collecting dust, silly people...

Anywho, now I feel like using small triple flanges for everything and probing my brain. The chance of hitting my eardrum is zero... Right?

New AudoSigGen numbers:

At 6 down, starts around 17Hz, goes up to about 1320Hz followed by a small dip, stars climbing again around 2100Hz until it hits ~3100Hz, runs about flat till it begins climbing again around 3200Hz, reaches the apex of the peak around 5300Hz, begins falling till a small bump around 7900Hz, hard to tell if its going up and down a bit or staying even before it begins falling again, can hear noise up till about 19460Hz.

5300Hz is the loudest part of the sweep. 7900Hz is about even with 120Hz.

Keep in mind the noise around me is not always the same when I try this app out.

Btw, pulling the rockets out after inserting them deeply is fun. /s

I was going to design a UnitySealofApproval™ graphic on my phone for the three BadAsses™ but I'll get it done at a latter time.

Days free is over and sleep shall fall upon my face.

That was great but I'd understand it much better if you converted the Neko scale into Dragonball Z power levels. :p

Seriously though good stuff. Your GR07BE does have pretty great bass iirc. Is bass your foremost concern? Because mids and treble on the Rockets are way ahead of the GR07BE imo. But then you did say you prefer more bite.

This! Finally someone came out and said it out loud! Why in the world do we expect truly reference iems from the industry when we as a species can't even get our ceilings right?

I dunno, i haven't listened to the BE, but the regular GR07 has some pretty underrated mids imo. They are very even, they have bite, great definition and bucketloads of texture. It also does great with metal which has a lot of information crammed in the mids.

The regular GR07 and the BE have pretty much the same exact mids and treble. And yeah the mids are good, I'm just super picky with mids. Anything not super close to ER4 levels is dead to me :p

I agree. I felt the mids/upper mids of the gr07 mkII to be pretty open and transparent in a sense, but then the treble has a peakiness I didn't like and the bass seemed uneven to me. It wasn't super bassy or peaky, but it was like a portion of the bass was just a bit much. But it still sounded god. I'm still looking for er4s, red filter, mid to treble, with a perfect low end to low mids...
