Arnie Nudell's glowing review in the Absolute Sound might help you some ways too. He describes the X beautifully in ways I could not.

Hey guys, I was wondering if these would fit my musical tastes.

I listen to some rock, Deftones, tool, perfect circle, math rock, acoustic, ed sheeran, Radiohead.
Video game soundtracks and movie soundtracks.
Jazz, very little classical, but alot of soundtracks.
Electronic, ambient, drum and bass, alot of hip hop, trip hop, downtempo. Mf Doom, Madlib, Portishead, Nosia, ETC.
Alot of female vocals. Norah Jones, Diana Krall.
Experimental type of stuff.

Also how do they fair with movies and games? Not my main purpose, but I do some gaming and movie watching.

sorry im on my phone, so spelling is off :/

Minus the orpheus I've pretty much heard all of the top line offerings. For everything you've mentioned I would pick 3 headphones for those genres. The 3f's, X's and the Abyss.

The X's will reward for many years if that's what you listen to. I would, however pick the 3's for female vocals. But it's very close.

Anyone who own both the LCD-X and LCD-XC try swapping their grills and wood cups with each other and seeing if the headphones are exactly identical except the grill vs the wood cups? If that's the case, then you can get both the LCD-X and LCD-XC when you buy the LCD-XC. Just remove the wood cups and the LCD-XC transforms into the LCD-X

I would think the X and XC are by tuned differently from the get go.

Are these good for EDM and modern music?..

Why yes! They provide a great deal of energy, as opposed to the laid-back LCD2/3. I listen to mostly rock from the X.

That's 90% of what I listen to.  I went to a meet last week and tried a ton of phones including Stax-009, HE-1K, Dharma, etc.  I preferred the X to all of them for EDM.  The HE-500 was surprisingly good.  The LCD-3C was good too.  Both had a relaxed top end that allowed for some extra bass without fatigue.  Overall, factoring in soundstage, slam, balance, etc, the Xs won out IMO.

A decent budget phone is the Fidelio X2.. very fun for the $$

I'm between this and Hifiman Edition X and trying to decide. I'll buy one of them, LCD-X seems excellent for my preferences but I also wonder about HEX.

haven't heard the hex but i heard some people saying it was great.  in my experience hifiman build quality is just not worth it as compared to audeze.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's EDM?  Always interested in new experiences.

A genre of music called Electronic Dance Music.

On a side-note, my LCD-X's were supposed to come in today.  I signed off on them through the UPS website but apparently they ignored it and didn't leave it at my house anyways.

Now I have to wait till Monday to get them.  Should have just had them drop it off a UPS location the first place..
