Hi all, just got my DX50 from advanced MP3 players 3 days ago, I'm in the UK and received my dap with FW1.2.5. It sounded great on my AKG 545's on gain number 2. I just updated to 1.2.6 and tthe sound is so much better and gain set to 1. I also tried my Panasonic noise cancelling RP-HC300 and Brainwavz HM5's. Much prefer the AKG headphones. I don't need an amp as this little player sounds amazing. I was using a Cowon J3 and just removed the Sandisk 32Gb micro SD card and put it in the DX50, it scanned and was good to go. I must admit I'm very anally retentive about tagging much to the annoyance of my wife (thinks I'm just wasting time). But my music plays on anything :) I have to say it was this thread that made me buy this DAP and I cannot thank all who contributed enough.

I find the EQ confusing .

Just to be clear

When you go onto the EQ screen and you see OFF - there is NO EQ

When you press OFF and it shows ON, there is EQ.

EQ then remains active until you press ON and it show OFF.

I think it's the other way around. What it shows it what you need to press to obtain that status so if you see on, it means at the moment it is off and when you press on the on button, it will turn on EQ. By the way that was my main complain to me it should have been the other way around. To me it would have made more sense if it meant the EQ status. What I mean is if it's active then it be on, if not then off. Anyway that is just the way it is.

Hi guys, which amp should i pair the dx50 up with? I am using the jh16fp and ath-m50. Or should i upgrade to a ak120/hm901 and play out of it unamped? Would the SQ be better that way? I mostly listen to pop and japanese female vocals

Even with firmware 1.2.5 I still have a slight gap between songs (maybe 0.5 second). Has anyone found a way to get album artist to show on vorbis? The DX50 appears to use the album artist tag which AFAIK vorbis does not support.

I find the EQ confusing .

The EQ is subtractive. Yes, the numbers say +/-6 but they really mean -0 (top) through -12 (bottom). A slider at 0 subtracts 6 steps (they appear to match the volume steps from the volume controls) from maximum for that band. EQ "off" -- no presets can be selected, sliders can't be adjusted -- is the same as all of the sliders at maximum. You can test this by turning EQ "on", sliding all of the sliders to the top, adjusting the volume to a comfortable level, listening, and toggling EQ on and off. If you hear any changes then your mind is playing tricks on you.

What I discovered messing around with this is that it affects the line out jack as well as the headphone jack. EQ isn't happening in the amplifier; it's happening in the DAC. My suspicion is that it's the same mechanism that controls volume. That is, pushing the volume button ticks all 8 bands one step together whereas the EQ steps each band individually within a 12 step range relative to the master volume setting.

I'm in audio heaven, just sat here and played:

Trigg & Gusset - Legacy of The Witty ( ambient jazz)
Leonard Cohen - Ten New Songs (folk)
Deep Forest & Rahul Sharma - Deep India (World, electronic)
London Grammar - If You Wait (Pop)
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (Progressive Rock)

For a portable DAP iBasso have cracked the market.

anyone having trouble installing firmware 1.2.6? after the update my system info still shows 1.2.5 and it doe not have any of th improvements of the new firmware.

First not to trivialize your update but you did update firmware from the Advanced menu item after you copied the firmware on the dx50 internal memory in the root directory correct?

Did you perform a factory reset?

i also dont find the EQ to be very effective. The difference between max and min is definitely not 12 dB for me.

on the other hand. sound is improved a bit :) bass does have a lil more punch and soundstage is a bit wider.

look forward to seeing more improvements!

The EQ is in the firmware.  The chip contains mute, volumeand phase reversal

This is why the various DAPs using this same chip have EQs with different numbers of bands, different frequency centers for each band, subtractive or additive, different Q, etc.
