Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Bought my SE535 last year and i really like them. But i'm still finding the lack of sub bass a little frustrating., How does the SE535 compare to the SE846?
The SE846 i 3 times the price of a pair of SE535 here in Norway, so an expensive upgrade.

See my post in the Shure 535 Reviews and Impression thread. The last post, that is. The one before the last was a fellow being sarcastic and a little cantankerous.

Wow. 6 hours of "burn in" and the bass is as deep and impactful as my old SE846.

Truck, is it my ears or does the "new" 846 have slightly better imaging and a touch more shimmer at the top? First serious listening of my new 846s and to me they sound slightly better than the old and I loved the old. Of course it could be "new" toy syndrome.

So you saying UMPro 30 has more bass than SE846? That's odd. An that you find UMPro 30 distant? That's even odder. Its one of the most closest intimate sounding IEMs I have eve owned.
Sorry but that didn't help one bit.....
To my ears the SE535 is ALL about the midrange....and yes, its nice and clear. But the problem is the bass and treble take a back seat. Talk about describing a frequency as "distant"?
It may be softer but UM3X/Pro30 surely have better detail retrieval.

I don't see how the UMPro 30 (which would probably be quite similar to the UM3X, correct?...which was supposed to have less bass than the SM3 that I remember well) could have more than the SE846. There's really no need to worry about bass with the SE846, as it's shocking how low it can reach when music demands it. There's just no mid-bass clouding going on at all, so if a song doesn't have much in the lowest registers, the 846 can sound like a typical somewhat thin sounding BA.

If you don't find the UM30/UM3X a distant, veiled, bloated mess then the 846 is going to sound super aggressive and thin.  Just saying :p

Wow. You not really helping me out. Now I really confused?? So you say the UMPro 30 has mor bass than SE846? That's odd. And that its all more distant sounding that SE846? That's even odder. I will cross SE846 off my "want" list as UMPro30/UMX30 is among the closest most intimate sounding IEM I have ever owned.

I own the W3, previously owned the W4, and auditioned a friends UM3X for a while. That said, i feel that the SE846 is a level or two above any of the Westones in any sound category (still love the comfort of the W's though). It just feels like I'm dealing with a completely different beast. The more I listen to the SE846, the harder it is to listen to the W3's.
I would not describe the 846 as aggressive or thin at all. It is rather the most full bodied sound I have heard.

Thanks Ottotron. That would seem to make much more sense. And for $600 premium, it damn well be better.

If I had $1000 to piss away....it would probably be SE846 over either of the 2 new Westones (50 and 60).

Glad I was of help :D
A grand is a lot of money, but I have the SE846 in my ears for about 50%-60% of the day, so to me they are completely worth the price. I am curious about the W50, W60, and the Roxannes. I don't see myself replacing the se846 anytime soon, but would love to audition the other totl iems.

This tells the story quite clearly.  The Westone sig of a boosted mid bass and scooped out presence region makes it distant and bloated sounding compared to the close but not quite there more natural sig of the 846.

Like I said if you found the UM30 to be up close... the 846 is putting you even closer in comparison.  The 846 is not thin or agressive but it is next to the UM30.  Personally I still find it a little too emphasized down low and I'd like to see that scoop come up a little bit.  But it's the closest iem I've had that competes with the LCD-3.  In fact, I haven't worn the LCD-3 since the 846 arrived :O

The chart seems to be quite off which doesn't bother me one bit. Charts are for nerds and  anyone that would buy an IEM based on a chart is a moron.  It's all about the sound.  I owned the W3 for about 3 years and would agree that it had a mid bass boost but the UM3X bass is flat and is surely the best bass of any universal BA driver at its $399 pricepoint.

I find it REALLY irresponsible when trollers spew crap about great clarity IEM's being muddy and bloated without any reference point.   You are messing with people's wallets.  Go troll elsewhere!!

Go back to your Ety thread and we will forget this happened.  Good enough?
