The Fiio X3 Thread.

Could be that someone posted this before, but for those interested in response times etc when inserting a larger SD card.

Fio x-3
Firmware v3.2
128GB sd-card (SanDisk 128GB micro SD ULTRA Class 10 UHS-I 30MB/s)
Filled with roughly: 100GB of music (everything either FLAC (If I have to guess.. around 40 percent) or 320KBit (60 percent))
Note: I deleted every image (album cover etc) that is larger than 500kb.

Startup time: 8s
Updating library (not first time scan): 09:20(mm:ss) for roughly 6.000 files found
Note: some music files seem to be not actually updated in the media library.. which _are_ playable by navigating through the folder. I haven't found out what causes this, perhaps the tags for artist etc. are wrong and it does update it correctly.

Accessing 'Play All': 13 s
This number is pretty much the same for just after boot and when play all is begin played and you navigate back and forth.

Everything else operates either instantly or with just a little delay. I get frustrated pretty quickly if my UI is lagging, overall I find this more than acceptable.

When navigating through entire play list and you hold the UP button for a long period, the actions get queued and if you release the UP button, it continuous for a moment.
When pressing 'NEXT SONG' in 'Play All' session, and when it is in 'shuffle' the device becomes responsive for around 2-3 seconds, but the music plays instantly which is fine. This might become a bigger issue if you have a large album covers it has to load.

Hope this helps

I bought one of these recently. I'm not even sure what firmware version it is at but so far I have not experienced any problem with it. Sorry to hear yours has been so problematic.

I was getting so frustrated listening to mp3's through an ipod and was developing a bad attitude. I swear the ipod has destroyed peoples understanding of hi-fidelity. Cheap, small, and crappy has replaced the golden age of the high performance stereo system. And I hate to be critical of peoples musical tastes but some more historically recent music, not all but some, has followed suit. Synthesizer based music has no room, no resonance, no subtle aural cues,  no reflections, no creeking chairs, breathing, or piano levers and hammers, or strings resonating against a finely crafted wooden instrument. It's fine if thats what you are, or are not, into but the science of high fidelity audio production is about bringing those subtle details out of the recordings.

It seems to me this concept is simply non existant in the electronica earbud ipod world.

So rather than going back to vinyl records as so many have done I decided to give digital another chance and I bought the Fiio. And I've really discovered some amazing things. To start I have listened to some standard reslution mp3's that sound simply amazing. Not that they wouldn't benefit form a higher resolution but they are pretty good. And I have discovered some new music that is far better than I was giving it credit for. My wife was listening to Jenny O. Innitially it didn't do anything for me but I used it to demo the Fiio as it has a nice twangy tele in it and a pretty high pitch female vocal and I was amazed by just how good a recording it was. It was an expertly crafted album both musically as well as engineered which really stood out on the Fiio. We had downloaded the mp3's but I am going to buy the cd and rip it to flac. On the other hand I have come to realize that some recordings I expected more from didn't live up.

The Fiio has made me a believer in the digital medium and given me hope for the future. There are times I have to eat frozen dinners out of conveniece but generally I prefer steak.

Got X3 last week, I'm on fw 3.0, prior of X3 I have had itouch 4, iPhone 4s, Xperia SP, Lenovo K900 and Z ultra. And I would say X3 bests them all by considerable margin, here's I would sort them with decreasing order of sq ( I use V4A on my android phones)
1 X3
2 iPhone 4s
3 Lenovo K900
4 itouch 4
5 xperia SP
6 xperia Z ultra

I like the X3 but I'm starting to doubt it's driving capability, I'll wait when I get my dt990pro in few days and will post my thoughts but till then if I could get some response on how it drives dt990pro would be grateful

P. S. I tried using X3 as dac with my Z ultra but unfortunately it didn't work
Cheers

Did you install the drive?  My X3 works as DAC fine.

Looks like he tried to use it as a USB DAC for another phone.  That is not something you can do.

Try to install USB Audio Player Pro trial on Android phone to use the X3 as a USB DAC. Maybe it works, this app can handle a ton of USB DACs on Android phones.

I hate to tell you this but I just got a set of DT 990 Pro's 250 Ohm and they sound like total cr@p driven directly from the X3. I am going to get an amp and am counting on that to solve my audio problems. My Audio Technica ATH-M50's and V-Moda M80's sound great through the X3 so either my DT 990 Pro's are defective or they are a poor match for the each other. I have been discussing this very subject on another thread; "DT 990 so far not impressed".

I will warn you that the DT 990's sound remarkably bad out of the box and need a break in of at least a couple days to open up. At least mine did. Of course mine couple be defective. I am going to give them the external amp test soon, maybe tonight. I expect they will sound great in that configuration.

I've tried that with my HTC One M7 and unfortunately it doesn't work.

The X3 and the Geek Out (with external power) are the only DACs I've not been able to get to work in this configuration.....

FWIW:  I love the sound of my HTC One M7 with PowerAmp app.  I don't think the X3 betters it.
