Hi!

3.  The best speaker under $2500?

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Very seriously:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spendor-A6-floor-standing-loudspeakers-NIce-great-speakers-/350834772453

They hit WAY above their price point at full MSRP, and these are at half retail.

Heh, I've lurked I'd say, 5-10 books worth of reading at this particular site =].

I missed his chapter.  He said he may start using Lithium which sounds quite serious, and felt like sharing with this enclave of the internet, so, I think it's wise we listen. ;]

As for the "best", I've been to the mountain-top (through some kind friends), and there is absolutely no such thing. The more high-performance an iem gets, the more specialized it will be. For instance, I found my ASG-2 to be better than the TG334 because it had better technical performance and more open treble. Another 334 owner found the 334 to be better because it had better delicacy and more forward upper mids. Same with the 1Plus2 and 334/ASG-2, etc.

Everything will have compromises, it's just up to you to determine what you can live with. That principle can also apply to life itself.

I see, they are all tools with specialized taks.  If you're dating five people, they all have their flaws, no human is perfect, but you can only love one!

Even if there is no sound at the mountain top, peering over the rest of the world as a lone satellite, I'm sure there are some very high altitude sounds!

Even if IEM's are an assortment of tools, one of them is irrefutably the best Swiss army knife!

Hahaha "spendor".  When I get floor standing speakers, I'll only get a single pair, so I'll need to locate and listen to a few, such as that model, thanks!

You won't find them for $2500 new, they're usually $4500, I was simply pointing those particular speakers out because the dealer was selling his floor models for a low price.

Regarding the camera talk:

1. The RX100II looks fantastic point and shoot BUT
2. The Ricoh GR looks zomg amazing and a real photographers tool, especially for random snapshots and street photography.
3. Nice on the RX1R! I wish I had one.
4. The NEX-3N with the 16-50mm kit lens or the 20mm pancake will be best of both worlds since it's tiny, will have better image quality than the RX100II and it'll behave like a P&S unless you don't want it to.

Or: wait to see what the Sony Honami will be like?

Sony obviously has some crazy stuff cooking as well: Sony self contained lens with battery/ shutter that communicates with smartphone via NFC.

However, I need to know what the best dynamic IEM is and the best balanced-armature IEM, custom or otherwise.  Even if my desire for them is questionable, the inquiry still stands nonetheless, even if only for the sake of inquiry or felicity.

While there are indeed some wise folk on this thread I think this thread is popular partly because the regular posters here are somewhat tired or wary of talking about any piece of gear being 'the best'...

Yeah, but if Warhol had done it, it would have been hailed as a stunning visual representation of the silence within we all crave in a society who's individualism has been stripped away by the unending consumer driven need to be heard on internet based opinion venues.

And sold at auction for a meg and a half, autographed with black ink, of course

It would seem to be an excellent representation of silence, actually....although I suspect it will not last long.

Actually I was wondering if I could pick your brains guys.

I recently got a used pair of the DT880 320ohm and despite everyone telling me I wouldn't like them, I quite like them. They are comfortable, sound like a laser beam and have a single sided cable which I love. Sure the treble is a little fatiguing for some tracks and over longer periods but thats what the MA900 is for etc.

I in fact like it enough to be curious about the T90, which I was sniffing around about earlier when I saw a used pair go on sale in Aus. for 450 a few months back. Can any of you comment on how similar the T90 might sound to the DT880? :3

"irrefutably"???? hahahahahahahaha!! Spend some time in the Summit-Fi forum and then come back and tell us whether ANYTHING can be "irrefutable"...

The *only* absolute truth in audio is that there is NO absolute truth. Is a perfectly flat frequency response "best"? Or is it just lifeless? What about a headphone having the lowest distortion? Is an IEM with Is a $1000 speaker that sounds like a $2000 speaker "best"? What about a $30 speaker that sounds like a $300 speaker? Is what I hear as the "best" the same as what you hear as the "best"? Is "best" an objective metric or a subjective judgement?

All of these questions and many more have been debated for many years on every audio forum on the 'net.

Someone here knows me well! Actually, I'm moving back to Los Angeles after a long sabbatical. And I am driving. S-l-o-w. Normally would arrive in 5.5 hours. But this drive will take 5.5 days, deliberately so - I want to reflect and seek solitude before the dizzying array of choices that await of simply what to do first

when I get there.

All Hell breakin' loose in The City of Angels? Who knew?!

Further, Monday evening I made a mad bid to buy a very special amp. And the dealer hasn't leaned one way or another with an indication.

Do I need to sweeten the price by sending the "Ask" but a little extra to his Mom... what

I just would like a sign or trace. And a good night's sleep!
