Tiny DAC, Big Sound, Evolved – Stoner Acoustics UD100 / UD110 / UD120

Can anyone give their impressions of the UD110/120 vs. the Hifimediy Sabre U2? I'm rather new to DACs and trying to decide which to buy
It seems there's only a few comparisons of both and those were based on the older UD100
The UD120 does have a longer warranty so I am leaning towards it a bit.

I have an O2 amp with AKG Q701s and Xonar DG currently, thanks!

Yes, indeed. The new form factor is much better than UD100 and UD110 in heat shrink wrap previously. UD120 looks classy to me in black plastic housing. The sound is crispier compared to UD110. I totally love it.

booo... i wish they was an option for a transparent clear usb housing case. that would look baller. the black plastic housing is boringggg zzzz.

Headroom tried that with the Bithead. The reviewers went crazy: There was no reason to even sell a black Bithead anymore!

The transparent versions sold approximately zero units and was discontinued the next year.

The C&C BH2 amp is a good option for the budget minded. I had it for a time and was very satisfied (I have the Shure SE846).
Currently I use the Ray Samuels SHADOW amp, which is great.

Please check that it works with configuration below :
- iPod Touch 5 iOS7 > CCK > UD120
- Moto G > USB OTG > UD120
I think it will be a good stack with many headamp on the market.

I'm thinking of the pico series, not sure which to pick as I'm going with IEM at the moment, but also wish it can drive some headphones that I will add to the collection in future.

Pico Power is wonderful to drive both IEMs and full-size cans. It is not the cheapest amp out there but you are getting what you pay for. Another excellent amp that is a bit lighter and less expensive is the Meier Quickstep. Both are excellent choices given what you have described. I have also used both with the UD100 with very good results.

Can I actually use a resistor adapter with low resistance to avoid channel imbalance on my SE535 which can always happen with analogue volume controller with low impedance IEM? Will it alter the sound of the IEM?

Of course it will, and that's the main reason why everyone is advised against it.

That's somewhat troubling me, there is hardly any "perfect" amp that fits the needs of driving low impedance IEM without background noise and channel imbalance at very low volume and at the same time able to drive high impedance full size can properly to be future proof.

* I'm not wanting it to be super super low volume just normal low volume that I can have some music playing in the background and I still can concentrate on my work.

You need an amp with two gain setting, one with zero or preferably negative dB gain in low setting and around or more than 10dB for high setting, that should cover all your bases.

Both of the above amps will do the job. The Quickstep has an ADA stepped-attenuator. Channel-matching is essentially perfect. The Pico Power has an analogue volume control but it is very good. With both amps, background is black with IEMs. That is why I recommended them; that, and they can drive full-size cans as you require.
