Denon D7100?!
Aug 28, 2012 at 1:12 AM Post #827 of 1,920
I just returned my denon 7100 for lack of having any fun with them. They acctually kill the joy of music unlike their predessesor ah-d7000 that i loved but had to sell during tuff times. Now i don't know where to get them back.As of right now i listen to koss porta-pro and Grado 325i and have much more fun with the soundstage soundimaging etc. Grado is great for slow guitar rock and i love koss for classical and electronic .Denon's for 2 weeks were nothing but a feeling of being cheated of my hard earned 1300$. Never had that feeling even after paying 1100$ for 7000.Now i'm 1300$ richer again and  couldn't be happier with the old set-up as it is.The quest for a perfect pair never ends but as much as i remember with denon ah-d7000 i would jump from the chair at 4a.m and dance like i'm at concert or in a club.It never happened for 2 weeks owing 7100.Maybe i could save some money for some of you wondering:)

Would you be so kind as to be a D7100 pioneer reviewer?  I'd be interested in your opinion as an actual, albeit former, owner beyond "It's a buzzkill".

Dagothur, it's just i was expecting some sort of magic when i pay 1300$ and the magic wasn't there,it was like listening to the regular 80$ headphone like Grado 60 for me.I was expecting much more for this amount of money, such as position of instruments, closeness of vocals, being on stage with the musicians but what i got is the same feeling i get in a car when listen to the regular fm radio on a stock radio.Sorry for putting it in a simple and not technical terms.

The analogy you made to FM radio on a stock car audio system was excellent. Couldn't have said it any better.

I've a strong feeling that the D7100 won't be my tea...or money! However, I am curious to learn approximately how many hours did you endure?

Were you seriously expecting the 7100 to be better? Like everywhere I look on it points to it being inferior to the 7k. And of course the innferfidelity graphs are out now. Though my just looking at the new Denon line, it's obvious they are going for everything but improving the sound IMO; I don't think Fostex even designs for them anymore.

You have to keep the timeframes in mind. He bought the D7100 2 weeks ago and back then there were only speculative reports of it's SQ. So it's perfectly acceptable that he was expecting the D7.1k to be better D7k back then.

No reason to wait, get the Fostex TH900. It's what the D7000 successor should have been all along.

I wonder if there will be a D8000, as an advance on the D7000. Think I'll wait for that.

That's what I am waiting for, AH-D8000 with natural looking mahogany cups.
To me Fostex TH900 is so ugly I will pass, :p.
