My cousin's just got iPhone 5's as their Christmas presents and holy Schiit. Apple really outdone themselves with the Earpods. For $30, they aren't majestic creatures of the reindeer forest but as the new Apple standard for all devices post now, it is a good high definition upgrade to the most iconic headphones in the world.

Well looking at the measurements at Innerfidelity, it definitvely is an improvement in every way.
I just wish that the general consumer mentality change though. You know those people who keep saying that the best earphone ...(dramatic pause)... IN THE WUUUUUURRRRRLLLLDDDD is the Apple Earpods.

I have a friend. He is pretty smart and is the all around very likeable guy that is good at history and politics.

We were in College Level European History when the topic of vinyl came up. I didn't say anything but he started going of about just how much better vinyl is and just how clearly better it is. He uses earbuds, he just got earpods.

That mentality is very standard if you don't go deep into the topic the vinyl is better. Is is just that standard thing consumers say today because audiohphiles used to always swear by it.

If the topic went on longer I would have offered my opinions but whatever.

Its not that vinyl is not superior. But his tone was that it was superior in every way and was night and day.

Um correct me if I'm wrong but vinyl degrades pretty quickly after repeated playback don't they? I don't see how anything like that can match up to CDs or magnetic tape. Not much of an improvement over the original phonograph.

Not quickly, it relaly depends on the user. Does your car's transmission belt degrade after usage? Well yeah but it also depends on how you use it.

I won't go to the debate of Vinyl vs CD/Digital because both has its pros and cons. What I like about vinyl though is that wonderful analogous warm sound. Also, some music does sound better with vinyl. I have the digital and vinyl rip of M83's Hurry Up We're Dreaming and the vinyl rip offers a more dynamic sound, the digital version while it's cleaner, it sounds horribly compressed. I also have a vinyl rip of Skrillex's Scary Monster And Nice Sprites. There was a whole lot of grain noise but the music sounded a whole lot more tolerable.

Yeah of course, but I don't prefer vinyl personally as it is too poppy.

Random thought: You know what I think goes too unnoticed in the head-fi community? The SQ of different presses. I find that getting better sounding pressings of an album is leagues above the difference between 320 or v0 and FLAC in those terms.

I would argue that people just want to sound intelligent by arguing on minor and trivial things. That and probably people already forgot the original reason they descended into this stupid rabbit hole: listening to music; they have forgone that and now only listens to gear: all the fancy cables, miracle tubes and messianic opamps.
