Am I the Only Person Out There That Prefers Dynamic IEMs Over Armature IEMs?

Wait, the Yamaha EPH-100? Those look quite unique. Hmm, where can I get them at besides Yamaha themselves?

They're really quite unique, probably closest to the Ety MC5 in technical design. But the Yamahas are much more fun and musical than the soulless MC5. The usual online shops didn't carry them, so I ordered from a local store.

Awesome James! I'm guessing you'll be reviewing them? I'll be curious to see what they sound like.

Yea the EPH-100SL's look like they might be one of the best micro drivers out there.  The way james described them in the Yamaha thread makes me want to give them a go.  I've heard some people say they have a somewhat BA sound with more bass as they're very detailed and analytical which appeals to what I'm looking for in a dynamic driver.  At $150 looks like a good deal and while I'm broke at the moment my Xmas cash will hopefully be enough

Their tiny 6mm driver is pretty fast for a dynamic (probably due to less mass), but other than that they're unmistakably DDs in my book.

I have a dyadic as well that competes and goes just as fast as all my BA's and MA's, and I'm pretty sure everyone hear knows exactly what IEM I am talking about. I'll give you a hint, it starts with a G and ends with a 7.

Most people would use balanced armature for professional use because of the better detail, clarity and separation. Balanced armature also seems to be able to be more neutral than dynamic at times, so I would see people using it more for professional use than "fun" listening.

If you like the Ety sound, you'll love the EtyKids...  My review of them: http://www.ifans.com/blog/34809/

They are like the Etymotic HFs, except with slight tweaks in the bass to create a slightly larger body (which leads to presence) and increased impact.  However, some texture is lost so it becomes a wash.  The high end of the HFs are more refined and less fatiguing, but both can still be stringent/fatiguing.  Midrange is an entire wash.  They both have Ety mids which are lively and fun.  Like most Etys, they are mid-heavy (then high end, then lows).

Although I haven't heard the new Yamahas, I have heard the CC51 and they are nothing like it.  The CC51 has a relatively deep V in it while the Etymotics focus mainly on mids :p
