JVC HA-FXT90 Thread

vs K2 SP thoughts (on mids) please? I find the K2 SP "treble forward". Thanks

K2 SP is meant to be listened in low volume, much like GR07. Once you turn the volume up, they will sound bright. But if you keep the volume at slightly lower level, they will sound detail about without being bright.

I haven't had a lot of time with the FXT90, but it definitely has a very different sound compared to K2 SP.

Hi, is the mids more forwarded than the Shure SE535?

Don't have the SE535 now, but l think FXT90 is probably around the same neighbourhood when it comes to mid forwardness.

FXT90 has a more forwarded mid. In fact, I'll refer FXT90 as a mid centric IEM with good extension on both ends.

hi,from your memory how is the extension on both end compare to the SE535 in term of quality and quantity?
JVC phone never cross my mind until one kind headfier offer me a brief listening session on his FX700 and was really impressed.
in your opinion, how close is the sound signature btw the FXT90 and FX700.
Thanks

Could anyone comment on the level of isolation on these? For example, could I use them in public transportation?

Thanks!

Comparisons with the RE-262 would also be welcome :)

I don't want to go into detail comparison based on memory alone since I don't own the SE535. I can only say FXT90 is up there with thr big boys, at least as far as a preburn-in pair is concerned. But top of the top it is not.

Isolation is good, but not great. I have used it on train with good result.

I don't feel like it will beat RE262 for my first impression, though I haven't compared them directly yet.

Soundstage is very important for me. I read that FXT90 doesn't have wide soundstage. How do you compare GR07 soundstage with FXT90?

What you've read is "average" width. Don't mistake that for small. We just mean its not ie8, ex1000 and gr07 width territory. It is plenty wide and best of all has very good depth.  More depth than many universals.

I am trying to find some ways for not to purchase FXT90

While just starting to enjoy my GR07's, I really don't want to sell it and jump in to the FXT90

I hate this site

Ahh, I got you.  The GR07 is a fine IEM.  I like both very much and while I do prefer the FXT90, I have no plans to give up the GR07 either.

Thanks for the reply. So can you write the strengths for each iem? What are the reasons for you to keep two very good sounding iems? How many hours have spend with FXT90 (burnin time)?

Here is something I posted in another thread that seems an appropriate response:

The GR07 sound sig is a more balanced and monitor like and maybe just a hair more clarity than the FXT90.  To me the GR07 treble is pretty smooth being neither dark nor overly bright with decent sparkle but no air.  Mids are clear and a little forward.  Distortion guitars have really, really great bite.  The bass has little mid bass and mostly sub bass presence.  They really have good sub bass rumble and texture.  On the down side, the dynamic range is soft, which means less of a difference presented between powerful and delicate passages.  I believe this also attributes to it's shallow soundstage depth.  However it does have a very wide soundstage.

The FXT90 sound sig is more musical and layered.  The FXT90 treble is brighter with more sparkle than the GR07.  Mids are more forward and clear and can be more intimate when necessary.  The bass is equal parts mid bass and sub bass, so while it doesn't have quite the same rumble as the GR07, it does have more punch.  The FXT90 is very dynamic and very powerful in it's presentation.  It transitions easily from delicate to powerful passages.  The soundstage is only average in width but has excellent depth due to the greater dynamics, layering and reverb the dual drivers produce.  Instrument realism is superb and rivals that of it's big brother the FX700.

I think the FXT90 is a little more comfortable to wear and I like the cable better, as it is supple and easy to deal with.  The GR07 cable is stiffer and tougher to deal with but its housing is comfortable in it's own right, considering it contains an 11mm driver.

You really can't go wrong with either.  If you want a more monitor like presentation with more sub bass rumble, go with the GR07.  If you want a more powerful and musical presentation, go with the FXT90.  Or be like me and buy them both.

Edit: I forgot to answer your other questions.  The majority of hours I've spent with the FXT90 are a loaner pair.  I'm not sure how many they had before I got them but I've many listening hours on them.  The reason I'd keep both?  I'll keep anything that appeals to my preferences.  I've gotten rid of several top tiers, not b/c they were bad but b/c they didn't match my preferences close enough.  Both the GR07 and FXT90 do.

IMO, The RE262 is dark and thick compared to the FXT90, and the FXT90 is a knockout with strings and horns in comparison......
