LCD-2, LCD-3, Owners and the Music They Love...

This guy is an electronic genius. Don't assume this is standard electronica, it's far from it.

It's organic. Fantastic deep bass with amazing soundscapes. The LCD-2s are a match made in heaven.

Yum.

Ditto.

And of course...

The Division Bell.

Since you guys like Indian music, be sure to check out Maneesh De Moor - Om Deeksha. Beautiful.

Youtube compressed quality of course (CD version is much, much better), but a great track. Bliss.

Progressive and subtle. Give it a full listen.

Another favourite from the album, Om Bhagavan. This one's been cut short.

I'm a longtime OTR fan. Their new one, The Long Surrender, is pretty good, as was the previous release, The Trumpet Child, but the latter is more of a departure from Ohio than the more recent.  I think my favorite is this one (Good Dog Bad Dog):

It was recently remastered, and is available at a reasonable price after being out of print for a while and at ridiculous prices on the used market.

Good Dog Bad Dog is a really great album, but there is something strange in the recording of the first song "Later Day": for the first minute or so Bergquist's voice shifts ever slightly back and forth between the left and right channel -- perhaps unnoticeable when played through speaker rig but creating kind of annoying, somewhat dizzying, effect when listened with headphones.

Supposedly Classical for one, and some jazz. I've only had mine a couple weeks so I haven't tried much of either yet. Can't seem to get past Rush and other bass heavy stuff right now. Having too much fun.

Is there any musical style in which the LCD-2 does not excel?

I think classical and jazz is where the LCD-2 excels. It doesn't do as well as some other headphones in Death metal, metal, hard rock, hip-hop where you would need a brighter headphone with more bass impact.

That's good to know regarding classical and jazz. Regarding metal and hip-hop, do you need a closed headphone to get that kind of bass impact?

I think a great deal has to do with the quality of the recording and the mix.

I listen to a lot of jazz from the 50's and 60's and I have found Jazz from that era on headphones really depends on the mix.  Some of the mixing from that era is simply ridiculous on headphones but really OK on a speaker rig as far as the philosophy of mixing and recording Jazz from that era.
