hmm, the knock off is 90% close to the real thing..I am kind of worried, how can we be sure the one we have is the real deal instead of knock offs.I did read through some of the posts before from packaging to minor difference but hoping there's a for sure tell tale sign from just looking at it to be able to tell the difference.

we can't be sure and that's what's so worrying. i'm not convinced that my k3003 is genuine despite the assurances that the authorised dealer gave me.

The counterfeits are easy to spot imo Everything is different. Color, finish, ect.

Harman Kardon concluded that mine were counterfeit, but took the salesperson a good five minutes of examination to discern (and she owned the K3003i herself). Perhaps your powers of observation are supreme among mortals, but my data suggests that there must be at least two degrees of quality in the knockoff world.

Now I am really concern that the one I bought from Amazon for over $600 might be fake as well. Although everything matches up to the real thing in one of the earlier post but sounds like there's some real good counterfeit out there. Did the sales person at Harmon give you any clues or tell tale sign the main difference between real vs fake?

The detail retrieval was better on the real ones, by about 10%, and the buttons were a little more "clicky" on the in-line remote. The fit and finish was really hard to distinguish. Also, the fabric part of my cable seemed to be showing more signs of wear than the "real" one.

I took my genuine k3003i and my counterfeit k3003 (no i) into work. I explained that they were different models but also said one pair were fakes. Everyone (5 People) picked the fake as the genuine item, including someone who owns a pair of k3003i......

If (some of) the fakes are this good, I almost am inclined to say that worrying about whether an item is truly genuine is just an exercise in unnecessary anxiety.

Yeah except when you paid the upper end on the current market price and still don't know if yours is genuine or not, that's a real course for concern. I know the first gen of the fakes are kind of easy to tell, sounds like the newer fakes are almost the same the real deal.

Anyone care to post some recent pics of the real and fake K3003 and see if we can see if there's any minor difference that might help?

If my experience at Harmon is indicative of the QC of the upper end fakes, no pictures will do them justice shy of professional level super high  res ones, and even then it might be a wash. Can't see clickiness.

With production moving from Austria to China a couple of years ago, there is always the possibility that some of the "fakes" are actually either oem runs or qc fails. In those cases, it will be almost impossible to visually differentiate them from "genuine" K3003. With the non-"i" models, it becomes even harder as there are only two points (the ear modules themselves) rather than 3 to identify wrinkles. The change also from stainless steel to aluminimum also makes it easier to copy, the machining being somewhat simpler. I suspect that the easiest way to spot fakes will be the packaging...

Ok..the unthinkable has happened...and I don't even know how it is possible.

I have had my K3003i's for about 11 months now. They are absolutely the best earphones I have ever heard.
A couple of days ago, I started getting an occasional light popping noise while listening to Spotify. I assumed it was just a random issue with the streaming.

When listening today, something sounded off. I never found the k3003 overly bright, but today it did.
I used a tone generator and have determined that I have a channel imbalance with just the low bass frequencies on the left earphone. It's not that the bass is gone completely...it is just much lower volume.

How could this happen out of the blue?! I don't get it.

Did you ever get this issue resolved and did it happen again to your replacement pair? I think this is happening to me as well, just requested for a replacement warranty through AKG but curious what's causing this issue and if it's a common problem for owners of K3003i?
