Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

LCD2 has much more upper midrange than the HE-400.  The two aren't too dissimilar in the bass and lower midrange.  The Audeze is thicker/smoother/more congested whereas the HE-400 is thinner/more textured/rougher sounding.

I actually don't consider the LCD2 to be that much better than the HE-400 if you EQ the HE-400's obvious colorations away.  The LCD2 I heard was pre-fazor though, so fazor'd LCD2 might put it a little higher in sound quality.  Comfort will be even worse with the fazor though.

Do the  with out the extreme treble?

I've never bought an audeze2 if it sounds like the he-400.

Their comfort are same, IMO.

No not really.  Fazors add an additional 100grams on top of the already heavy LCD formfactor.

Switching from he-500 to LCD-2F was a world of increased comfort for me, the pads are squishier, the headband is more padded, they fit my head much much better than the he-500 did as well.

Despite the 2 being so much heavier, it honestly feels lighter on my head because of how great the pads + fit is for me compared to the 500.  I guess comfort is quite a subjective thing though, as it varies from person to person having different head shapes/sizes/etc.

I honestly think the LCD-2F sounds much better than the 500 did for me, but I've never heard the 400 so I can't speak on that half though.

YMMV

I can't speak for the HE-500, but HE-400 compared to even pre-fazor'd LCD2 was a world of difference in comfort.  The earpads of the audezes are phenomenal, with a huge inner cavity for a roomy fit, and the leather feels great on the skin.  The additional weight, plus the bumpy headband of the LCD2 created hotspots on my head after just 20 minutes though, compared to the 1-2 hours of the HE-400.  The Audeze heaband might be better padded, but it's a slightly thinner headband that doesn't distribute the weight as well.  HE-400 vs the fazor'd LCD-X was even worse.

Here I am with a pre-fazor'd LCD3 loving its sound, but I still have to build up a tolerance for its headband and weight.  I still got hotspots on the top of my head after 20 minutes vs never with the 560 and its suspension strap.

I know everybody in an Audeze thread is going to say they don't have a problem with Audeze's comfort, which makes sense, because anybody who has had problems with an Audeze's comfort has probably sold theirs off and is off making coversation in other threads.

How did you get this?

LCD2 was 500 grams pre fazor.  It's 600grams now with fazor.  The fazors are essentially an additional two metal plates on either side of the driver that include the triangular diffusers (which also touch your ear if your ears protrude enough.)

I just emailed Audeze support about getting a Fazor upgrade fore my LCD2.2 and they said that it is NOT available due to lack of customer demand. I'm not real happy about that response.

Just sell yours and buy a fazor. It will be about the same price or less. AFAIK, upgrade Fazor = $230 + ship, huge damage!

It may be because I'm a bigger guy than most as to why the weight doesn't bug me, my only two complaints are; if I'm reallllllllllllllly tired from doing something all day with very little sleep the night before, sometimes it hurts my neck a tiny bit. As well as sometimes the leather pads get a tiny bit to warm for my liking.
I think due to being a bigger guy my neck is quite thick compared to most, maybe that is why the weight doesn't bug me except on rare occasions, as I can wear them for somethings more than 10 hours without having an issue

Yeah I was going to say that I thought Audeze was charging around 200-250 for Fazor upgrade.  It's no wonder there wasn't very much demand for that.  High-end headphones have good enough resell value so you could probably come out more cost efficient selling yours and then buying a brand new one straight from audeze, or even buying a used fazor'd one on the classifieds.

Well, there is a pretty big weight differential. Plus you don't have THIS...

Well my problem isn't in my neck.  I'm not really a big guy but I do lift a lot of weights.  My neck never gets fatigued, but I get hot spots on the top of my head.  I do hear a lot of other people get neck fatigue though, and weight and general strength can play a big role in that.  Hell, my brother's girlfriend said she got some neck fatigue after using the M50 for a while.
