The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

Amictus is looking for advice here. I am interested in the T1, but read on Jan Meier's site the following: "The phone has a very neutral and honest sound and a somewhat compact and distant soundstage". That sounds like "meh" a bit. Would anyone like to comment on the soundstage? I mainly listen to the HD800, HD650 and the RS1i, depending on circumstances.

HD800 soundstage is wider but sometimes T1 have better details. Want to compare both in my system myself

Yes, you should. I have both and I think that the T1 is richer mids because it has a deeper soundstage. :)

I agree with the previous comments but also think the T1's provide a more forward presentation than the HD800's. Like 1st row compared to 12th row. Not the vast soundstage of the 800's but a more realistic and intimate soundstage for most music.

I have both and agree the T1 has a more compact sound stage. I wouldn't call it 'distant' though.
I would describe the T1 as slightly more detailed and transparent but also leaner and slightly lacking body in presentation.
I prefer the HD800 for classical music due to the large sound stage and the T1 for small jazz ensembles & acoustic/instrumental music. Ultimately I would say the T1 is more clear & precise, however the HD800 midrange is broader and richer in tone.

I'm not exactly sure what is meant by compact soundstage. (If someone could explain I would very much appreciate it

But 'distant' soundstage is the word that comes up when I think about the T1. I don't necessarily mean it as a negative trait. Compared to my other cans, the music seems to come from 'farther away'.

If I use the gain button on my amp (and I rarely do), that trait becomes much less apparent. Therefore, my guess is that individuals' views on the T1's soundstage will vary according to their amp power and volume they listen at. I usually listen at relatively low volumes.

I like my HD650, but I can't say much about its soundstage. My closed back headphones are better in that regards.

The power and volume would be (should be) a common denominator when comparing any aspect of two headphones because the volume level has to be matched for the comparisons to be valid.

Has anyone installed 4-pin mini xlr's in their T1?  I am interested in pictures internally, if someone could please help!

Thanks in advance!

I have done it but it's been a while. Here is a link to the information in this thread that I used. Unfortunately the photos are no longer posted.

All the information available is in that area. It was very easy to do if you have some basic soldering skills.

T1 scales well with more volume... otherwise it lacks body to the benefit of clarity might be a common complaint.  Nothing level 11 can't fix.

Agreed 100%. You REALLY have to dial in the volume...but when you do the timbre and overall presentation is incredibly real. As a long-time drummer, nothing beats toms on the T1. Turn it up !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love my T1s for the same reason, but have you heard toms on the SE846s? I know they're an IEM, but holy $%*&!!
