Wow a lot of low end and so uncomfortable. I did the bending in of the shoulders as suggested from this thread. Better but still that contact point on the top of the head was kind of annoying so I ended up giving the headband more of a curvature. It feels much more comfortable now with the pressure spread around the head.

Did some quick A/B-ing with my SR225s, hmmm es7 has a lot more lows and mids, not as crisp as the grados in the highs though. I just ran it unamped off the zune and definitely the es7 is more efficient and plays louder at the same volume setting.

Can't wait to see how the sound matures with age. Definitely worth the money & no regrets on this purchase. These will replace my px100s as phones I will take on the plane when I travel.

Hey man! I0m just so surprised you didn't say they blow after listening to your SR225!

IMHO that's just amazing!

(still waiting for mine.. ..

It sounds really good every day; the only thing I'm missing is a tiny bit of presence in the cymbals. The rest is very full and deep.

I'll be waiting to hear from you!

Well, here's what I think. Bear in mind that its all just IMO only. So you're more than welcome to try it out for yourself and see (or hear).

Well I think that when you burn in using normal music, the frequencies targeted are totally random and dependant on the type of music you're generally listening to. So, only certain "parts" of the can is improved. If you're songs are bass heavy, I don't think its gonna improve the mids and highs that much. Granted, if you just burn in using music, for say 10000 hours, you'll eventually get there too. What i think is that since pink noise targets all areas, you get there faster. A lot faster. You see, I was burning in (+normal usage) with with music for about 2 months (about 5~8 hours a day, 5~6 days a week for 2 months). Yes, there was change, I did notice it. Then I tried with pink noise, about 30++ of pink noise in 2 days. When I put them on after that I was like... WOW ! The mids and highs are really there now...

I'm not saying they sound different, its just that you get there much faster. Waaaaaay faster.

Its like going from point A to point B.
Point A = City & Point B = Beautiful Beach.
You can take one of two available routes there, the scenic route or you can take the expressway.

Now if you take the scenic route (burn in with music) then, when you eventually get to the beach, the scenery is not that stunning anymore because you've seen and experienced beautiful scenery along the way. Your eyes have managed to get used to beautiful scenery all along the way. In this case it'd be your ears. You'll take longer to reach the beach too.

If you choose the expressway, you'll get to the beach faster but you'll be bored along the way BUT once you reach the beach, you'll be like, WOW! Beautiful!

Its 12.15am here, I'm sleep so I can't think of a better example.

So, please try for yourself and post back here.

What I'm trying to say is that by the time the music burn in method finally brings out the actual capability of your cans, you'll most probably not be bothered about how it sounds anymore. You'd either not notice it since its soo gradual or you'd be thinking about your next upgrade already...

@3X0, please, please, try with the 20 min pink noise and the 2 minute gap method for 2 whole days and post back here. I'd like to know if what I said above works for anyone else.

The cymbals were very noticeable to me after the pink noise burn in.

ok i'm taking the on-ramp to get on the expressway to the beach. I did some reading up on pink noise generators and am using the Edifier Speaker Tool. They recommend burning in for 3 hours at a time and then giving the headphones/speakers a rest before continuing. Is that being too conservative? There is a setting for up to 6 hours of burning in before the program shuts off.

You know what's really funny, I think this is the first time i've plugged a set of headphones into my home computer, i've never checked to see if the jack actually works, ha ha ha.

Thank's,

It all makes sense, at least if one does believe in burn in.

I usually don't believe in burn in but with my ES7 I do think that at least the bass has changed significantly during the time I've had them.

@Lamprologus, I'm glad it made some kinda sense to you. I was afraid I would just end up rambling...

About the bass changing, yes, I've experienced that too. The bass tightened up within the first two weeks of burning in with music. So, I'm reasonably sure if you go down the same path I did with pink noise, you WILL notice the difference with the highs and mids that I've noticed too.
The burning in stuff is dependant on the particular headphones used. Some headphone models don't change much after burn in. We are fortunate that the ES7 does indeed change sooo much. And it changes for the better too. Try it out and let us all know what you think.

@urabus, I have the Edifier program too, but I used this pink noise instead:

http://www.binkster.net/extras.shtml#cd

Download Track 58 & 59. Play them both in a loop as long as you like. In my case, I left it for almost 2 days non stop. You see, track 58 is 20 minutes of pink noise followed by track 59 which is just silence. That way, the headphone gets 2 minutes to rest or cool down or whatever between 20 minute sessions of burning in. I think its waay better than the edifier way, because with the Edifier one you gotta burn in 3 or 6 hours non stop, then the program will quit then you have to start again later. Using the link above, you won't have to bother, just let both the tracks loop for two days. Repeat if necessary.

Woohooo ! Expressway all the way!

Forget the scenic route. You won't even know when you're there if you use the scenic route. Use the highway and the drastic change in scenery will shock you when you're there. LOL
