Is the iMod worth the extra $199 ?

It does void the warranty, but Vinnie will help fix any problem that might arise with an iModded iPod.

An iMod iPod with that Xenos amp will beat the pants off an unmodded 5G iPod.

You can use a remote designed for a 4G iPod no problem, but I'm not sure about a FM transmitter, I have never used one.

moshken - before you spend your money, how do you plan on using your ipod? you've already mentioned that you'll only be listening to MP3s and you've mentioned about using it in your car. if this is primarily for commuting and you listen to relatively low bitrate MP3s then i would think twice about spending the cash on an iMod. don't get me wrong, i'm a huge fan of vinnie's work but i also don't want to see you blow a bunch of cash if you won't be able to fully realize how good the iMod is.

just want to throw in a reality check.

.

Thanks for your note.

I listen to music even while I am asleep. I have a Denon Mini-Audio in my bedroom and I hooked up my nootebook to it and it plays my music all the time. I love music and I am very picky about how it sound.

Since you brough this subject, do you think that the sound of iMod would be better coming out of the receiver than coming out of the HP note book using soundplast 32 sound card?

Thanks.

Mo:)

With a setup like this you shouldn't care about the the extra amp, it just becomes a piece of your total unit.

It's an Incase Multifunction Sports case: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipo...ith-clic-ipod/

I basically had no use for the hand strap and had an iSnug mini sports wrap band lying around. I took the iPod mini holder and used it for my Xin Supermini IV. I cut a small hole in the top of the hand strap and reversed the placement of it to be on the front side rather than the back side. I then slipped the Supermini through the hand strap so that it would be attached to the front of the iPod for easy access.

The cable is a custom AudioLineOut cryo cable with Switchcraft right angle mini connectors on both ends. The fact that the click wheel isn't protected doesn't bother me considering that the handstrap covers it most of the time, and I have a 3d wheel cover film covering it anyhow.

Other than that, its a iPod Photo 60GB with the iMod done by Vinnie with a Xin Supermini IV (latest), and ER-4P headphones. I'm absolutely pleased with every aspect of this setup.

Thanks for the tour.
I am just wondering if a custom or an expensive cable make such a major difference? On Red Wine Audio there is a cable for $139. Do they really make such a difference to worth paying an arm and a leg for it?
Thanks.

oh yeah, the cable makes a huge difference. i used to have a generic cable and after getting the cryo cable, the sound just opened up and is more airy. regardless how good the imodded ipod is, you still need a good cable to carry that clean signal to the amp right??

btw, bamboo, nice setup. i thought about getting the switchcraft right angle cable too, how much did that cost?

Just for yucks, I just spent some time early this morning while plowing through some email comparing the new 80GB 5.5g iPod's line out and the iMod iPod.

Man it wasn't even close! Kind of embarassing actually. The iMod sounds so much better that it's instantly noticable on almost any kind of music. I was listening to the Grateful Dead's "American Beauty", and the vocals are so much more natural, Phil's bass so much more punchy, and the drummers' cymbals so much more natural and clean sounding.

The iMod really continues to impress, a year later.

Man, you guys are killing me! I have a HR Micro amp and an ALO dock on the way to use with my 5G 60GB iPod. Imagine me explaining to the wife why I need another iPod. She'll ask why I didn't just get the 4G to start with, and I'll say, "You see, there's this website..."

Just explain it to her.. That you would rather get an old 4G ipod and pay 200 bucks for something to be done with the internal signal chain -I'm sure she will understand

I have a Zen Vision:M connected to a Hornet amp which I am fairly happy with, but you know what its like, we strive for that "perfect" sound. I am thinking of going down the iMod with Rockbox route and wondered if I will see any noticeable difference in sound quality.

Man this hobby & this site is addictive!
