Welcome to the league of happy GS1000x owners. I feel the same way about my GS1000i -
end-game for me. I do find that the GS1000i's like a small amount of eq in the mids -
I've posted about this earlier.

I've heard the GS1000e's for about an hour, and they sounded very close, I could live happily with either.
The GS1000e may be different in their liking mid eq; they may not need it (haven't listened enough to be sure).

Qualities:

Amazing detail together with natural, addictive smoothness throught the entire spectrum.
Effortless, natural, full-size soundstage, depth and imaging
Amazing coherence - lesser headphones - including the SR325e's -
sound like the mids/highs and the bass are coming from different drivers
(the 325e have very nice imaging/soundstage in the mid/highs but in the bass,
while the weight/impact and tonality is excellent, the bass imaging isn't as great
as the rest of the spectrum - still a fantastic headphone and a budget alternative to the GS1000 IMHO)

the GS1000i's is as effortless, naturall, life-like and addictive as high end electrostatic speakers (think modern Quads)

above all, the GS1000i (lightly eq'd) just sound so RIGHT
in every way, plus they are so light and comfortable.

My vote for Best of Grado!

Spot on - I agree entirely with the above. These are the only headphones I've heard that give me that speaker like feeling. The air, separation, musicality and organic sound of instruments really separates it from other headphones I've owned and heard. I try not to gush too much about gear but these truly feel warranted the praise! I'm flabbergasted each and every time I put these on - something I can't say with any other headphone.

Really wish I head these years ago - could've saved me lots of time and money!

How would the GS1000e compare against Koss ESP 950. It has been said in that 950 could noticably surpass the RS1 in terms of speed and instrument separation. Could the GS1000e make up some lost ground?

I just bought my GS1000e. Absolutely amazing piece of audio gear. The most natural, musical sound I have ever heard. Very spacious, mids have a lots of texture and yes like others have mentioned, they are incredible at low volume.

I used to have the PS500 before and the sound was so good and thought it cannot get any better then it. The G1e are way better then PS500, definably worth the price difference and more comfortable too.

The G1ke were way above my budget of US$400-500 but I pulled the trigger anyway. But now I have to wait for a little while before I buy the dac/amp combo to go along. I have the Bellari ha540 in my office that I can bring home to use until I figure out what is the best option. What dac/amp you all are using with this?

Welcome to the club, the GS1000's are end-game for many...such as myself! I feel these are overlooked
on these forums for GH1's, PS500's, PS1000's, RS1i's and even RS2's.

Especially for those who like the full experience of the music even at low to low-moderate levels.

they communicate intimacy, naturalness, effortless musicality!

I really feel that many aren't realizing the revelation these phones are - "natural" nails it,
I liken it to having the phones  disappear and simply being there at the performance!  -
(see previous posts of mine, don't want to blather on here) - these are among the finest transducers -

YMMV - always audition for yourself

I use it with ALO the Island, which sounds great however it is long discontinued. No need
for summit-fi, just a good match like the ALO should do the trick - so idealy audition the combo.
One suggestion:  try out the new Audioquest Dragonfly with a jitterbug!

I really, really love my gs1ke's!! I feel that they're not enough to have on their own, I like to have another pair of headphones that complement them. Right now its a set of fidelio x2 for that big bass open sound.

In saying that, when I do reach for my gs1ke, nothing comes quite near them. I find them to be an astonishing sound - with crisp detail and wide open soundstage. I pair them with a schiit gumby and cavalli liquid fire. My previous amp/dac set up was a wa7 and that also had great synergy with the grados.

Edit: on a budget, you wont have to look far to get the most out your grados, they have such low impedence they are fairly easy to drive. I can recommend the creative e5 for its versatility of inputs, but there are plenty of options out there.

Congradulations in your purchase. If you ever get the funding - go for the PS1000e.

I am using the Burson Conductor Signature Editionheadphone amp.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I would prefer a little more portable option. Though I am not going to use it on the go but perhaps I can easily move around with it at home. I have alac lossless files on the ipod and have some hi-res 24bits albums that I can transfer to ipod using a third party app.
What do you all think about the Oppo HA-2 or the mojo or the newly released ALO Continental v5. The first two has the built in dac that can also pair with the ipod.

Was wondering if any other GS1000 owners have heard or would listen to Esperenza Spalding's song "One" off her latest album?

Myself, loving Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell's music - this song to me is a musical masterpiece. Would like to know
if others agree with my taste. Also, a guilty pleasure is "Generation Landslide" by Alice Cooper from Billion Dollar Babies (classic).

Also some of the songs from Regina Spektor's What We Saw from The Cheap Seats.

I'm posting here as I really feel these tracks benefit from the Grado musicality.

For me, the above tracks are very compelling on my Grado's (esp. the G1000i,
but also very nice through my iPhone/ SR325e).

I like Kate Bush, my favorite song is Wuthering Heights. For some reason, I used to reach for my GS1000 to listen to her music.

Never cared much for Alice Cooper though, she's a little too ''ugly'' for my taste.

A question for other gs1000 owners :  My 'phones had been sitting on their stand for 2 weeks unused, and when I tried them last night I could hear distortion around certain frequencies, they sounded pretty awful to be honest.  I've now given them a good 5 hours play time and it seems to be gone.  Any ideas?  Have I just experienced grattle?

Which do you prefer (for those who know both) - the GS1000i or the GS1000e?

I've had the GS1000e for about 13 months and have put over 250 hours of use on it.  During that time, it improved, as compared to the Joseph Grado HP1000 to which I compared it with a battery of 10 tests (higher scores are better):

I just bought a Grado GS1000i, and it sounds even better to me than the GS1000e:

So again, which do YOU prefer?  Thanks!
