Your biggest headphones dissappointment?

Biggest Disappointment was without a doubt the Sennheiser HD-650’s followed closely by the HD-600’s. Fat bloated bass, un-involving, boring and dull.

Not that I feel strongly about it.

It's rather interesting that your PX200 has no bass. I find my PX200 to have quite the opposite - tons of bass! I guess there could be differences in build quality, or maybe it has to do with the oft mentioned positioning to get a proper seal.

My biggest disappointment was the Sharp MD33s. Muddy bloated bass that drowns out the mids, terrible microphonics, loud boom sounds when I walk coupled with extra servings of earwax

Yummy! I am delighted that they are so sought-after here on head-fi as I had no trouble selling them

Senn PX200 and Sony EX71 for completely opposite reasons.

px200: "no highs, no lows... were these made by bose?"
ex71: like an annoying neighbor with a big fat bottom and a really shrill voice.

Sony MDR-V200. I was about 10 years younger, a lot more foolish, and got badly ripped off (they were new and imports, so I paid about USD120).

On the other hand, the shop closed down a few months afterward, so I suppose I got my own back.

In fact I didn't expect them to be that great in the first place - I just wanted a set of Sony headphones as my Panasonics kept breaking and their service centre was in the middle of nowhere, whereas the Sony service centre was very close to me. In the end I ended up waiting (in vain) for my V200s to break.

Fortunately my ADH-500s are superb.

Sennheiser HD-600.......to my ears they fell very far short of the hype. I think I was expecting too much. Maybe it had something to do with the fact I was already hooked on the Grado sound.
To this day, they are the only headphones I have ever parted with.

1. Qualias 010.....cavernous sound not for a 2600.00 headphone at all...very detailed and extended headphone though, but IMO not involving at all, too analytic...

2. HD650.....I was expecting a much refined and better HD600 according to the hype, and what I found was an HD600 with more bass...IMO same case of the one below, comparable to a HD580 (150.00 headphone or less)

3. HD600.....Practically the same sound as the HD580 for practically the double of the price...

4. HP-1000.....considered as one of the best headphones available, not in my book at all, I still preffer by a good margin the CD3000 to it, and I paid one third of the ususal used price of the HP-1000, for a new one...Comfort is another issue here...

5. PS-1.....this one is one of the top of the line disapointments, about 500.00 more expensive than the HP-1000, and you only get more bass, and a lot of weight on your head, IMO so much that is completelly unbearable and unnatural...Comfort is another issue here...

Sony MDR-V600. I honestly thought they were defective when I first heard them. Amazing to me how long these have been produced. I was trying to get a pair of V6s but they had been discontinued so I (naturally) expected the 600s to be similar, if not better. They weren't.

Just a short hijack. I looked at your profile Joe and all I can say is "Damn, I thought I had it bad".

Now back on track. Er-4p's were a disappointment but only because I could never get comfortable with them.

Well, they don't call him 'keeper of the phones' because he runs a callcentre.

I have similar experience with many members here. The really like the Etys sound quality but I hate it in comfort departement.

Another vote for Bose Triports. I got them before I found this place, and despite my foolish belief that Bose was best, I didn't think they sounded that great, but I convinced myself that these were the best headphones on the consumer market.

Then I found this place and my ears were proven correct. And now my 555's ARE HERE! I'm waiting for my hair to dry so I can listen! *prances about*

er-6. Didn't seem right. Other than that, I've liked every "head-fi" phone I've had.
