M-Audio BXa5 and AV40
I think you will love them. And especially for that price! Also, they destroy the AV40s in all respects.- JohnnyLightOn

Audio-GD NFB-12
Here are my listening impressions after 10 days of owning the NFB-12: I'm not using this DAC with headphones due to a persistent case of tinnitus. I bought it exclusively to listen with speakers at work using my computer as the source. The chain is Realtek integrated computer sound...- JohnnyLightOn

How is the Yuin PK1 at very low volumes?
Thanks for the suggestion, pdt I think my MX760s are probably as good as the PK3, so I'm shooting for the moon. Lotus's return is great!- JohnnyLightOn

How is the Yuin PK1 at very low volumes?
Hey wantmyf1, THANK YOU for the most helpful information! It is exactly what I needed. I know the PK1 will come alive if I turn it up and/or amp it, but I have to work within my situation. I'm still an audiophile and if I can get better sound than I've got right now (I know you haven't compared...- JohnnyLightOn

How is the Yuin PK1 at very low volumes?
If anyone who has the PK1 could try them out with their iPhone or any other source at very low volume I would be grateful.- JohnnyLightOn

How is the Yuin PK1 at very low volumes?
Because of my tinnitus I prefer to listen only to earbuds or clipons, and only at very low volumes. Right now my sources are an iPhone 3GS and a Sansa Fuze. My earbuds are Sennheiser MX760 which I love with the Fuze and like with the iPhone. But even on the quietest setting they are a bit too...- JohnnyLightOn

Is SqueezeBox a good source?
I have a Squeezebox 3 with an upgraded linear power supply but that is otherwise stock. I can tell you that there's no way I can listen to the analog outputs of this SB3 with my Denon D5000 headphones through a Musical Fidelity X-Can V8 amp. The SB3 sounds decent through my relatively revealing...- JohnnyLightOn

What kind of amp for Denon AH-D5000 Reference Headphones
For my D5000s, the Musical Fidelity X-Can V8 works beautifully. $550 from AudioAdvisor.com. But I have not tried other amps with them for comparison.- JohnnyLightOn

Denon AH-D2000's under $200? Any chance?
They are protecting the brick-and-morter stores that sell their products. Denon has to choose between selling on the Internet at heavily-discounted prices or being promoted by dealers that stock and demonstrate their headphones. There's nothing wrong with their choosing the second model, even...- JohnnyLightOn

12AU7 comparison
I need to retube my speaker-system amp, an Onix SP3. Budget is not great. Are there any cheap 12AU7s that people recommend that have an overall-good sound?- JohnnyLightOn

Line Out, what devices?
As far as I know, there's only one way to use an outboard DAC with the iPod: a dock by Wadia that costs $250. It uses a chip to trick the iPod into thinking it's connected to a computer so it feeds the digital signal. Everyone who's not using this Wadia dock is running the iPod into their amp...- JohnnyLightOn

Wow! Sansa Fuze- color me impressed- Fuze appreciation thread
I am loving my 8gb Fuze overall, but one thing that's bugging me is that I instinctively hit the left button when a song is playing and I'm trying to get back to browsing my song library. Instead of letting me back out of the song into my library, it starts that song over from the beginning. You...- JohnnyLightOn

8GB Silver Fuze for 60 shipped!
But isn't the lineout from the dock at maxed volume? Doesn't this mean that it's being amplified by the same circuit that does the headphone out? What would be the SQ difference between plugging your amp into the lineout vs. the headphone out?- JohnnyLightOn

How To Build One Of The World's Finest Dynamic Headphones (markl Denon AH-D5000 Mods)
Thanks for the comments. I understand now what you mean about the source matching the phones. I won't be using a USB DAC; the Squeezebox outputs only SPDIF. When I'm ready to buy a decent source, I can choose from any DAC that has a coax or Toslink input. By that time I'll know the D5000's sound...- JohnnyLightOn

Questions about putting FLAC files on my new Fuze
I have chosen MSC mode as I am using mostly FLAC files and Windows Media Player doesn't support FLAC. I have the v1 Fuze, silver 8GB purchased from BestBuy.com on 11/29 (and delivered very quickly--on 12/9!). I don't know what my firmware was when I got it, because it would not recognize my...- JohnnyLightOn
