The Pono Player Impressions Thread
Does anyone know if the impedance halves in balanced mode like it does in some of the other daps out there. I love the Pono but at times I think the impedance is mucking up the bass a little with my ciems. Thanks for any information.- krafty

Cayin i5 Lossless Android DAP with AKM4490 DAC supporting 32/384 PCM + 64/128 DSD
I did a search and can only find one comment comparing this to the Pono. Any others out there that have heard both? Many $500 daps swimming around in my head and I am slightly leaning toward this one. I am just a little concerned about the warm / smooth comments as the Pono definitely fits...- krafty

Nice Review... This "artist album" thing.... does that mean you can't go to Eagles then click on Hotel California to play the album, or is this something else? Just curious as I really like this player. thanks...- krafty

Really looking forward to that review. I'm about 90% convinced the new 4 will be mine in the somewhat near future. I really liked what I heard. Just have to get off my butt and hear a couple others first. Life has just been busy the last couple months.- krafty

I got a chance to hear the new 4 audiophile model - final beta version, and it is really, really good. A little history: I have been using the Empire Spartan for quite a while now, and while I really like them a lot I have always thought that they were missing a little something. I think...- krafty

JH Audio JH13 v2
Anyone get a good listen to these yet? Can the bass be dialed pretty flat? Are they warmish or treble rolled off much. These are on my top three to demo in the near future and was curious.- krafty

Ditto..... patiently waiting on the new 4 driver. I was going to travel to Nashville to demo the RSM, but I am waiting until they release this one before I do that.- krafty

Ok - I give :-) JK I have decided to drive a few hours to Nashville to hear these sometime in the next month or two, and try Hattie B's chicken. I have some vacation days to burn anyhow. I know the demo's won't be a perfect match, but I will get the picture. side topic - I'm...- krafty

Not to muddy this up with the re400, but I have heard demo's that were over 10x the re400 price that I didn't care for. Same for the Westone 30 and a Sony multi driver - didn't care for those. It is not a money thing - it is a sound thing. I don't doubt the RSM is totally awesome - that is...- krafty

I have read Jokers reviews over and over :-) I love the re400 for what it is. I also love my Earwerkz customs but my wife may inherit them. I may have to sneak to Nashville to hear these and maybe some JH since they have an office there. I am really interested in these, the ctm500, and the...- krafty

Does anyone have any comparisons to some of the other ciem's in this price range? Noble 4, V6stage, ctm500, maybe even the re400. I'm due for my next step pair in the fall and am having a hard time picking from the neutralish models. These have been on my radar for a long time. If I missed...- krafty

Grado + Tubes
Attack - yes / smooth - yes / smooth enough - ????? I used this combo for about a year (225's & PPX). It was warmer and smoother than the LaRocco PR I had. While I would never admit it, because everyone thought the PPX was a little closed in on top, I thought it was still a little sharp, maybe...- krafty

Looking for a darker, warmer sound out of my 650's...
Since you like the ZU, I think I would shoot for a warmer IC. I recently heard a cable called Exodus Quadfield from www.DIYcable.com that was quite warm and smooth thru the treble. It's made from Cardas wire and ends, not expensive, and has a 30 day trial period. Nothing really to lose here...- krafty

SACD Cables?
The Acoustic Research set at Best Buy is running $99. At this price I would opt for the recommended set at bluejeanscable.com @ $75. Lastly, you could start off with 3 pairs of Radio Shack Golds, at or under your price range and move up later - if you feel the need. -
World's Best IC for $130 or less
Just for a fyi, I mixed in a 89259 cable (made with good Cardas connectors) in with a bunch of ~$250 cables I was demoing. The 89259 cable was not in shame in this company. Yes, it is not the best in all areas and may not push everyones buttons, but there it was sounding quite well in this...- krafty

Anybody using Grado SR225 with a Singlepower PPX3?
Based on comments from some more experienced Head-fi ers, I decided to stick with the Cleartops. First I had the Brazil one's which I got from Singlepower - now I have the US Cleartops. Personally I have to say the US tubes are a little less .... metallic ???, but just a very little. I also have...- krafty

Anybody using Grado SR225 with a Singlepower PPX3?
I do - about 9 months now. I love this combo - note I am a Grado fan. The amp has no trouble driving these - I usually listen with the volume at around 9 o'clock - 10 o'clock is quite loud, yet no distortion. I think the Midrange on this combo is fantastic, the bass is fine (not a big bass...- krafty

Woodied 225 or better cd player
I have pretty much decided to go with the better source. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be satisfied with the 521BEE knowing the 542 is out there - same for the Woodie, knowing the RS1 is out there. Thanks for your opinions- krafty

Woodied 225 or better cd player
Don't forget the woodied Grado does come with a cable upgrade also. Is the cable a large improvement, who knows - I'm sure I will find out sooner or later. Also, from what I remember the woodies compared quite well to the RS1 at some of the past meets. I have already forgot about paying for the...- krafty

Woodied 225 or better cd player
I love the 225's and the PPX3. The midrange is something special with this combo. That is why I am trying to build around this pair. Another neat thing I have found lately is this combo is very interconnect dependant. I can make the high end overly bright to overly rolled off with different...- krafty
