    dAck! DAC, its a keeper!

Quote: It doesn't look very portable to me. From the pictures that I see on their website, it looks like a solid piece of metals with PS to match. Yea, it’s ~5lbs, a bit larger than a big paperback. Heavy gage steel with the rechargeable battery pack inside. The battery’s last 4...

    dAck! DAC, its a keeper!

Got my dAck! today along with the Ack RCA cables. Right out of the box this little DAC is the best Redbook I have owned. In my system I have used an MSB Link III and Perpetual Technologies P3A DAC. Also one box Philips SACD1000. I liked the MSB better than the P3A. The best way to describe...

    Another K1000 amp question

I'm into vintage amps to the point I probably need professional help, or a larger storage area. After reading old posts as to what is the best K1000 amp it looks like 3w is minimum? I know some have said that they need as much as ten watts. Others are using 2A3 SET amps with great results. Is...

Bent Audio's John Chapman comments on direct connection.

I’ve met John two or three times through the local Bottlehead groups. He is a very nice guy as you can see from his posts. I’ve heard his preamps with 300B SET amps and other higher power tube amps. They sound great! He also sells some pre-amps in kit form.

My vintage tube amps and speakers

I’ve heard the Sennheiser HD 580’s and think that they are very close to the 600’s in sound quality. Nik is the head-fi member from Italy who has an outstanding head-fi setup. http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/membe...fo&userid=2390

My vintage tube amps and speakers

Welcome Raul. Neat equipment you have! Like mkmelt I also use the Sennheiser HD600 headphones with a vintage Fisher, it’s a 500C very similar to your 400. Please tell us more about the Voice of Music amp and tuner you own. I have small vintage collection mostly tuners. I think you can get...

    Wheatfield Audio HA-1

I owned an HA-1 for a while. It was OK after changing tubes. The stock tubes suck! It used a pair of tubes used in early computers. I replaced the two tubes with another type, 6900. The problem is the 6900 tube type is hard to find and is expensive, ~$75.00 a pair I think. The one stock 12AU7 JJ...

Need help w/ Millett tube amp

I was reading others talking about a Condor HA24-0.5-A+ 24/28V 0.5A linear power supply and how much better it is. I just copied what they did and found it to be very worthwhile. This PS can be found on Ebay or other online electronic sales oulets. Bias at 19 volts works great in my amp.

Need help w/ Millett tube amp

Kind of sounds like the pot is bad, did you check it with a VM? What is the bias voltage at the two test points? Do you have 24 vdc on the board? Try swaping PF1 end to end, it maybe installed wrong? I got a good quality PS like others here sugested a very worthwhile upgrade over the wall...

    Stripping Magnet Wire

A solder pot works like a little crucible. It melts about ¼ pound of solder in 20 or 30 minutes. I use it for Doc Bottlehead magnet wire. It will strip it of varnish and tin it under a second. I got one with two bars of solder and shipping for under $25.00. Look through the Bottlehead forum for...

    Fisher 400-X: First Impressions

Yep, Paul is great! Glad your in the old Fisher camp. If you go back to his shop please listen to one of his homemade 400's. I'm curious how it sounds. Paul did my FM100B last year, outstanding tuner now!

    Fisher 400 Power line upgrade

You'll be pleased how much better your Fisher will sound with a good quality power cord. The most obvious improvement is stronger bass. The cable shield drops most RF noise. I find the amp simply opens up a little bit. I just use Beldon 19364 Cable with 3/8 TechFelx and a Marinco 15Amp plug...

Millett DIY low power tube amp power supply?

Voodoochile; All stock caps per Petes list now. Am thinking of replacing signal caps with some higher quality, don't know what yet. jamont; Thanks again for the worthwhile PS tip. I installed 44 Ohm resistors, will try 100 ohm later this week. My only headphone is Sennheiser HD600 so...

Best SACD player on SACD performance

I bought a Phillips SACD1000 from Oade Brothers late last year. I highly recommend Oade. The Philips SACD1000 Redbook playback is slightly better than a P-3A and much better than a MSB LIK III in my system. The SACD playback of the Philips is outstanding. It’s a good DVD player as well. I...

Millett DIY low power tube amp power supply?

The tubes are designed to work from 10 to 16 volts. Pete sugests a 24 volt unregulated unit. And says anything between 20 and 28 volts will work fine. Anyone have a part number of a quality PS from Digi-Key or someplace that would be quiet (RF) and not too expensive? Voodoochile; After this...
