I too am guilty of using my stax/t2 as a glorified sound card.   It looks stupid when I do it but people have no idea how awesome playing games with them is.

SED winged-C have been solid performers. I recently acquired some EML tubes (not 6ca7 though) and the construction quality on these is exemplary. There are some solid new production brands out there.

I'd be wary that they are cheaply made crap.

I've never had anything but good times with my SED winged C. Highly recommended from a sound and quality perspective.

The bhse is fine with out a load. The main reason for this association is from tube amps with transformer coupled outputs.   No need to lower the volume to change headphones.
