Sonarworks Headphone Calibration software
I put the it to entirely dry for troubleshooting reasons--definitely should've noted that I had, as it's all the more confusing that the delay occurs when there should be no effect. I'll try seeing if it occurs with a stereo signal when I'm home. Thanks!- dmbr

Sonarworks Headphone Calibration software
Thanks for the reply! I'm using kind Wiondows 7 64-bit with JRiver's built-in VST host. JRiver's set to upmix my stereo FLAC's to 7.1, resample to 48Hz, then playback to Out of Your Head, a nice piece of surround sound virtualization software that other users have reported using with SW without...- dmbr

Sonarworks Headphone Calibration software
I don't think SW is working properly for me...either it's malfunctioning, I have the settings misconfigured, or this is simply a poor product. Basically, when enabled, the VST produces a "delay effect"--not latency, but an echo-like delay effect as one might use as a DSP (very short, maybe 50...- dmbr

UpTone Audio USB REGEN
I'm a Regen owner who can't afford the ISO right now. Two things I'm a little sore about: 1. No discount on the ISO. 2. Can't buy the new solid connector...I know upgrading the cable between the Regen and my DAC really improved the sound, so imagine this connector would my chain's SQ for a...- dmbr

iFi iPurifier 2 - Reviews, Impressions and Discussion Thread
As far as what it can do for my setup, the only difference is that it's a jitter reducer and uses USB 3.0 instead of 2.0...and the JBug in the adjacent port might actually be contributing to the SQ increase. The improvement is subtle, but it's there for sure...not entirely sure why.- dmbr

iFi iPurifier 2 - Reviews, Impressions and Discussion Thread
Dropping in to say I just tried out the iDefender, and the results were surprisingly pleasing--much better than the Jitterbug. I went ahead and replaced the Jitterbug with the iDefender and put the Jitterbug in the adjacent USB port (haven't tested out the difference between no JBug in adjacent...- dmbr

Asus Essence One Headphone Amp/DAC (CeBIT 2011)
I upgraded to a Yulong A28 balanced amp recently but continued to use the Essence One as a DAC. I'm now looking to upgrade my DAC from the Essence but I'm not really sure how much I should be looking to spend for a marked improvement (given I don't know what portion of the One's $1000 value is...- dmbr

Feedback on my Foobar2k DSP chain?
Thanks so much for the great reply! Re: TDR Yeah, it's a new addition I'm trying out. Can't say I hear a real difference. Supposedly it can help with certain DSP's. Re: R128 Does Replay Gain work with FLAC's? Re: Sonarworks/electriQ ElectriQ attempts to neutralize what Dolby...- dmbr

Feedback on my Foobar2k DSP chain?
Hello! I've spent a lot of time perfecting my DSP chain over the years, and I'd really appreciate some feedback on the ordering in particular. Hopefully this might give some of you ideas, too! I'd be happy to help with pointing interested people to the various things used. ...- dmbr

Why would 24 bit / 192 khz flac sound any better than 16 bit / 44.1 khz flac if both are lossless (if at all)?
My understanding is that there are reasons to record in "HD" (>44hz/>16bit), so what makes "HD" audio potentially better is that it eliminates the possibility of the conversion to 16/44 degrading sound quality. That is to say, 24/192 files can sound better than 16/44 not because the sampling...- dmbr

iFi iPurifier 2 - Reviews, Impressions and Discussion Thread
The last I saw, an iFi representative here recommended putting the iP2 before the iUSB (assuming you meant that not DAC) only if your DAC draws any power from USB. iFi also definitively stayed that the iP2 would serve no purpose used in conjunction with the iUSB3.0- dmbr

Out Of Your Head - new virtual surround simulator
Awesome! Let me know if you could use a beta tester for resolving Asus Essence (One) issues. Uninstalling Razer Surround did not resolve the problems with distortion or "bad output device" errors; rather it eliminates the workaround of selecting the Razer Surround device for output, so I...- dmbr

Out Of Your Head - new virtual surround simulator
The gaming preset is indeed the best option OOYH has for that--all others add "room sound/effects" and speaker positioning isn't ideal for placing sounds. The big thing though is latency--with the other presets the delay before sounds play is unbearably noticeable. That said, the second best...- dmbr

What's the best USB audio cable for the money?
I picked up the Pangea Audio 24 ga solid silver 0.5 Meter cable for $40, and I too found it preferable to the ~$100 iFi Mercury. I found it a little softer and more detailed; a subtle but distinctly more enjoyable upgrade. I've also tried Audioquest Evergreens, which both the Mercury and...- dmbr

UpTone Audio USB REGEN
Neat to see the iPurifier 2 stacking well with the Regen in someone else's setup, too! Have you tried using an iPower to power the Rehen? According to iFi it's quieter than the iPurifier DC--I know it outperformed my LPS (no iP DC). I also found that putting an iUSB + iFi Gemini dual USB cable...- dmbr

Isolation feet for DAC and/or amp: real deal?
I've just become aware of isolation feet being used with DAC's and amps to improve SQ...and I must say I'm skeptical--I can't say I understand how a component vibrating would disrupt how well it functions. I fully get why they'd be helpful with a turn table, but a DAC? Would a "top of the line"...- dmbr

UpTone Audio USB REGEN
Yes, and as expected, I much prefered having the Regen after the iPurifier2. I'll also note I get *slightly* better results with an iFi iUSB + Gemini feeding the iPurifier2. Maybe the purifier performs better when given cleaner power, as the Regen does with a superior PSU? Not worth the money...- dmbr
