Also, my only worry is that due to the nature of IEMs and based on the reviews I've read, these all appear to have a slight bass emphasis. But I don't have much experience with IEMs and would appreciate any opinions on this as well. A more balanced sound is definitely preferred.

Beyerdynanic DT 990 would be a good bet also....lots of bass without being boomy or overwhelming.

The very best isolation I have ever heard is from the Sennheiser PX360. I personally really liked the sound of them as well. For $119 on Amazon right now (I think) they're a fantastic deal. Easily driven without an amp, great isolation, and super portable...I'd check them out.

Just a warning about the German Maestro models...even though they are outstanding headphones, the closed models still leak quite a bit.

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you...   I actually don't use the 770s when I play guitar. I have the 32-ohm premium version and they're just much too low of an impedance to get any sort of decent sound out of them.

I may be able to help out with a couple of your questions, but not all...I've own the DT770's for about a year now and I love them.   As far as comfort goes, they do sit fairly snug on your head, just something to keep in mind. The cushioning on the headband has never been a problem for me...

If it's only the one movie it's probably an encoding issue from when the DVD was produced. That combined with not being properly driven could definitely cause some feedback

This is pretty similar to your comment but I'd like to see semi-open headphones stopped being advertised as "portable." Portable to me means blocking outside noise and keeping music in...I'd definitely agree with some more quality closed headphones.

One you should definitely look into is the Sennheiser PX 360. It's around ear and has massive bass...far different from any other Senn model I've listened too. They also isolate better (both sound coming in and sound leaving) than most portables I've heard. They are a tad weak on the mids, but...

They may not have the bass response you're looking for, but one to consider would be the Marshall Majors. They are on-ear, but one of the more comfortable on-ear headphones I've tried. The cable is coiled, which is nice for portable use and the newest models of the Major have the built-in...

I checked out the 440s but I actually found some headphones that sounded all-around better and were more comfortable...the KRK KNS-8400. I was really surprised by these, especially since I hadn't heard of them before. For the price that I can get the KRKs at, I think I have a winner.
