opinons on power conditioners and regenerators ?
To be fair, I haven't seen a UPS not have surge protection. Yes, they're two separate circuits, but surge protection is typically included. For that matter, and the discussion at hand, a surge protector is probably all most people will ever need. But I wouldn't use one in because it...- rlpaul

opinons on power conditioners and regenerators ?
If you have unreliable power (read, voltage spikes/drops), I can see running it through a UPS, as that'll provide protection for the equipment itself. Beyond that... it would have to have a really poorly designed power supply and isolation to make a difference IMO.- rlpaul

Amp. What's the point???
That's an interesting thought. I tend to like tube gear (fully realizing that it's the natural distortion from the tubes that I like), although we didn't have anything with tubes at the house. But I was in a band, and we pumped everything through either a vintage Bassman with more tubes than...- rlpaul

Amp. What's the point???
I cringe at that Master 9 board. KISS applies in audio. The less 'stuff' in the audio path, the better, generally speaking. That's why something like the O2 can sound surprisingly good. When proper engineering is applied, it doesn't have to be huge, heavy, and complex. Generally, the...- rlpaul

What is the state of MQA and would it influence your decision to purchase an expensive DAC today ?
A format is either lossless, or it isn't. So if MQA is asserting that it sounds better than a lossless format... If I want an equalizer, I'll use an equalizer to fit my preferences. I don't need somebody else deciding what sound I should like. MQA isn't a bad idea in concept...- rlpaul

The Sennheiser HD 800: The First Listen, The First Review
The original iPhone was not worth the hype imo... it was old technology with a pretty interface. The iPhone 3g on the otherhand is a decent piece of kit.- rlpaul

The Sennheiser HD 800: The First Listen, The First Review
I think the MSRP is surprising because with the exception of Senn's electrostatics, they're not 'expensive' headphones... compared to say, GS1000, or D7000, etc. Lets face it, HD650s are a very good bang for your buck can. I think everybody was expecting the same thing out of a new Sennheiser...- rlpaul

I'm not sure I like the second one myself... I was trying to do a pseudo HDR with it with just Lightroom, but there wasn't enough data in the picture to do so. So that photo is pretty much an experiment... found some cool things you can do with Lightroom in the process though!- rlpaul
