Messenger Bag.... Fi!
alrighty... since my backpack-fi thread was such a hit, i figured i'd branch off a bit. seriously, though. my much beloved messenger bag, from a German company called Jost, is finally falling apart, so i need a new one. i'd get a new Jost bag, but the only place in NYC that carries them only...- VicAjax

Surprised! Tom Petty's Live Anthology sounds awesome!
I'm not really a Petty fan, but my wife loves him, so I bought her the new four-disc live box set... and i'm quite amazed by the sound quality. Not only is this one of the best-sounding new rock releases I've heard in a long while, but it makes it very clear that Tom Petty and the... -

iPod weirdness: artists disappearing!
The strangest thing has been happening lately. Entire artists are disappearing from my iPod, as though the folder has just been being deleted. I'm sure I nor anyone else is doing this. Could it be HD failure? A bug? Anyone?- VicAjax

just saw Where the Wild Things Are
beautiful to watch, painful to sit through. the story was just terrible. if editorial and visual get equal weight, i'll give it a 5 of 10. 4 points are for the visuals. in a nutshell (highlight for semi-spoilers): the morals of the story: - kids can be simultaneously imaginative and dumb...- VicAjax

MUSIC or SEX: which would you give up?
if you had to sacrifice one of them in order to live, which would it be? would you rather never listen to music again, or resign yourself to a life of celibacy? -

R.E.M.'s Murmur: still a classic
I've been slowly converting my CD collection to ALAC, and just imported this gem. I haven't listened to Murmur in at least 5 years... possibly closer to 10. What a flawless album... easily one of the best debuts in the past 30 years (if you don't count their equally supurb Chronic Town EP)... -
ER4P finally bit the dust -- what now?
My much-loved, 5-year-old Ety ER4P has developed a short circuit in the left ear. I've loved these so much that I haven't even considered up/side/down-grading from them. But now that they're gone, I suppose it's time to dive right back in and get a new pair of IEM... maybe try another...- VicAjax

Getting a BMW - know a good shop in NYC?
taking possession of a 2000 BMW 528iT in a few weeks. needless to say, i'm pretty psyched. it's got fewer than 60,000 miles on it, and it runs like a charm... talk about a joy to drive. having said all that, i'm sure it'll need time in the shop now and then. does anyone know a reputable...- VicAjax

Backpack-Fi
i'm looking for a kickin' urban backpack that is well-made, has lots of pockets/organizing gizmos, looks cool (and a laptop pocket/sleeve is a plus, but i can improvise). it needs to be sturdy enough for travel, and light enough for weekends in the city. preferably no more than $100. oh, and...- VicAjax

The FELA Thread
I'm lounging here on a Saturday afternoon, with He Miss Road spinning on the stereo. It occurs to me that if anyone deserves his own multi-hundred post thread in the Head-Fi Music Forum, it's Fela Kuti. Think about it. He's the Bob Marley, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and Serge... -
Reformatting question: Western Digital HD + MacBook
Just got a Western Digital My Passport external HD to store my music. I'll be accessing it with a MacBook, but occasionally might use it with a PC. Do I need to format it any special way, or can I just start loading it up with music out of the box? TIA.- VicAjax

NOOB set-up advice: External HD to Mac to Stereo
well, i haven't called myself a newb in awhile, but i haven't attempted to set up computer audio to my stereo really, so i guess i qualify. here's my plan: encode my CD collection as ALAC onto an external HD. run my external HD to my MacBook via USB 2.0. stream music from MacBook to AirPort...- VicAjax

it's that one song that embodies everything you love about that artist, that album, about music itself. it's a shot of purified, concentrated extract of music. except it's not just one. they're not rare. in fact, there are more than i could ever know. unique and countless. but at any particular... -
