Probably the BEST.... or not until it has been properly tested against other "audiophile" smartphones.
Piling up nice audio chips doesn't mean the results will be awesome, since implementation and UI also do matter.
And the AKM4490 chipset isn't an AK380 exclusivity, friend. In itself it's no better than any other audio decoding chipset unless you want native dsd playback.

Also, since they went for Snapdragon 820, you can expect ****ty autonomy compared to other smartphones using less powerful CPU.

I've pre-ordered the Axon 7.  The reviews of the audio capabilities in Chinese have been positive and I read a German review that was very positive.  I was particularly pleased that the review said the Axon 7's sound is not "bottom heavy" but more balanced and still capable in bass performance.  The only slightly negative review I've read is a Chinese one that compared it directly to the Xplay 5 and said the latter outperformed the Axon 7 in every area.

That's great, but remember that the Xplay 5 is $800. So the Axon 7 being outperformed by a phone two times it's price isn't so bad.

Absolutely and the review I referenced did say the Axon 7 still performed much better on the audio front than the average smartphone.  The Xplay 5 also has its own drawbacks (no microSD slot, lack of native support for Google Play and Services).

Hurry up Friday. I just need that next check to pre-order the Axon 7.

Xplay 5 not only expensive but also lacks micro sd card slot for extended memory storage ,and there is no logic in making a high end audiophile quality smartphone without micro sd card slot.

That is very true. The Xplay 5 isn't worth the price then.

Well, this thread is supposed to be about the Axon 7 but I will say that the 128GB storage on the Xplay 5 is more than enough for most people and I haven't read one review in Chinese that complains about the lack of a microSD slot. I understand it's a deal breaker for some on Head-Fi.
