whilst surfing amazon, i did a check of john zorn. seems that he recently turned 50, and is putting out a series of discs recorded (at a series of concerts) in honor. the first was listed, and had one very nice review. wandering in borders, well there it was. and only 15.99 (low for a borders price).
this is mark feldman/violin, erik friedlander/cello, greg cohen/bass.
i've always kind of liked zorn, although some of his stuff is screechy and atonal. so far, not this stuff. tends towards his jewish jazz side. nicely recorded, esp. for those who are into acoustic bass. there is lots of that. and doesn't sound like cohen is on a pickup; sounds like a mic.
on the PX-100s, nice and phat.
if you like marty ehrlich's dark woods, you'll certainly like this. friedlander is common to both.
