ZMF Atrium - new open-back co-flagship

for Classical music, I'd recommend the Verite Open with the Decware Reference ZMF OTL

The VO is the fastest of the ZMF dynamic headphones and sounds great with classical music, and the Decware/ZMF OTL amp rounds it off beautiful and gives it a very romantic sound

Hi, what do you recommend some classical album/artist that "not hard" to digest and sound great on ZMF?

I am so curious if the incoming Atrium Open can replace my Caldera and AC for everydays casual listen. While I highly ebjoy both, they just draw too much attention to listen to them during work, Caldera with its energy and detail and AC with its powerful bass (yep thats how I justified another ZMF headphone purchase ha)
You’re gonna love the AO, and it’ll work better than either of those for work.

Not that it really matters now with it being discontinued, but of all the ZMFs I’ve had/heard (which is all except Bokeh and T50), I’m finding the Eikons to be the best work cans. Sound amazing without trying to steal your attention. Fun but not too fun. Just the right amount of isolation. Very Goldilocks.

With the AO, it took me twice as long to write this because I kept getting swept away in the music. 😂

Ok, you caught my attention with
“Not that it really matters now with it being discontinued,”. Are you saying that the Atrium is going to be discontinued?

They were referring to the Eikon, which has already been discontinued as a stock model (Atticus will follow in 2024). Atrium is still alive and well for the foreseeable future.

Hi, what do you recommend some classical album/artist that "not hard" to digest and sound great on ZMF?
Concierto di Aranjuez, Pepe Romero and the Academy of St Martins; as it's guitar and orchestra, and great music, it goes down very well with friends who are not highly into classical; I think you'll love it. I strongly recommend the above version, it's the best on CD that I've heard. I've heard this music live twice.

Anything by Mozart!
In particular, clarinet concerto; I recommend Emma Johnson; I've heard her play this, twice. Very accessible.
Any of Mozart piano concertos (no 15 onwards), but in particular 17 and 21; version of these by Geza Anda is nice. Understated, it's lovely!

Mahler Symphony no 1 is a favourite, also accessible, goes down well with friends who say they are not into classical. Look out for Frere Jacques theme.

To hear how classical can express different moods, Pines of Rome by Respighi is very interesting; a bit different, well worth trying.

Happy listening!

Perlman and Heifeitz, though some Heifeitz recordings have a hint of distortion around crecendos...

Love both of those.

I would add Hilary Hahn Bach Sonatas and Partitas. Particularly the Chaconne.

I had a search in the thread and know this has come up many times - but I'd still like to ask for fresh views from people who have heard/own both the Atrium and the Verite Open, which one do you prefer for metal & rock type of music? I'm looking for possible upgrades to my wenge Auteurs which I love. I've had them for 3 years now as a daily driver and starting to get the itch for something new. If it helps the assessment in any way, I didn't like the Aeolus when I briefly owned them, I found them way too "warm and fuzzy". I'm also considering the VC/AC, but I figured I'll ask about AO/VO in this thread.

Both are great but I prefer the Atrium Open. I like its more forward mids, slightly higher quantity of mid bass, as well as its more forgiving nature. It’s just so detailed, pleasant, and musical.
