@zach915m Can we request a bocote pattern like the one on the featured atrium?

You can definitely request it and we will do our best! I just checked the Bocote wood and a lot of it has similar pattern, we cut it all from the same boards and I will do my best to get more of the figured stuff too!

@zach915m

If the order goes through, should I just write in the info that I want aluminium instead of magnesium and send a matching or contact Zmf support directly?

Does it cost extra or does everything stay the same?

My wife has a good eye for colours and because I can't decide between rose gold and aged copper she said the Bocote will be a little lighter in tone and the rose gold would be more suitable than the aged copper.
She said that with the aged copper there is a slight green tinge in the undertone that is not noticeable. She is one of those people who perceive colours differently, or have a different relationship to them.
What is blue for us is not blue for her but blue-green or something like that.
It is sometimes an interesting discussion when it comes to colours when we buy something and still disagree.😁

You can either order and leave a note where we will refund you the $100 or you can email support or me and we will make an invoice for you. Whichever is easier.

Colors are certainly an interesting point of contention! Just like our ears being different, we all see colors a little differently.

You certainly can!!! At some point we will have all the flavours of stabilized for the Atrium Closed. I think you'll like the first LTD edition a lot though. :beerchug:

The Bocote would have been my wood dammit.
From what I hear the chassis only comes with magnesium, why?
Would think it fair to still have the choice there. For you it makes little difference with the assembly doesn't it?

Personally I'm not a fan of magnesium and find it a shame if it's a dealbreaker because of that.
Otherwise, they all look fantastic but the Bocote even more so.
I have to agree here. I think the aluminum is more durable cosmetically and also the casting/fit/finish just feels a little better to me. I got aluminum chassis on my Atrium and wish I had it on all my ZMFs now. I might actually change them over at some point. Paint just isn't equal to the quality of anodization when it comes to longevity. The weight difference is no bother to me either and probably wouldn't to most people if we're being honest. *** Just saw Zach's note in response that we can still request aluminum. That's great to hear so editing my reply a bit...

Aren’t there some more durable finish options for the magnesium? I’m sure it depends on the alloy. Probably cost an arm and a leg, but a tricked out magnesium chassis in black chrome or something would make a heck of a show piece.

Hey thanks for the feedback! Pull my leg! I will help 😉

It's mostly about being able to build them efficiently in the way we feel looks the best and most premium. If you want aluminum we will absolutely do it, just leave me a note or email me directly and I'll take 100 off and invoice you. But for the sake of being able to build one SKU and have orders out quickly we made the decision to make that version as stock and also allows us to only charge 100 extra for the MAG vs 250 and a custom build.

As far as it being mega sensitive, it's not. The original version had issues because we didn't break the corners hard enough, those are the sets you see out and about with issues. We've had them back at the shop and it's always that version.

We've worked on the finish and softer corners and machining a lot, and issues of durability are next to none now. Yes it's not the same as anodized, but unless you're rough with the headphone there's not going to be an issue.

And yes thanks for the feedback!

We've changed our finishing processes for the magnesium (and yes it is expensive) and the current finish mentioned earlier above are extremely durable. Since we made these changes over two years ago we've had extremely low issues, we just always state the caveat that magnesium is a more fragile material because it is, but not due to the current finish, it's just softer and more pliable due to its weight. Personally I prefer it over the aluminum for the weight and feel, but there's no right or wrong.

In a perfect world we'd build every headphone to exact aesthetic, wood, material and sonic specs for each owner, And in the future we do plan to do this with custom shop options.

Thanks Zach. I can see the difference in the magnesium finish between my Aelous (old finish) and the VO and Atrium (new finish).

And while I appreciate fully the sentiment that aluminum can be better and even feel better (love my Chord gear), indeed there are those of us who prefer the feel of the magnesium. And I should say that I really, really appreciate any weight reduction possibility.

Just here to say that the GIF usage in this thread is superlative. What words can't convey-- this group digs it out with the GIFs. It's visual poetry and I love it.
