ZMF Aeolus Impressions thread

I love my current system with the LCD2C (2Qute - Questyle CMA600i). I mostly listen to ambient and downtempo with detailed and layered bass/sub-bass. Many people are raving about the Aeolus, how great they are. The latest is Z's review on YouTube. He is very entertaining, but I don't give him much credit since he said all DACs sound the same. Anyway, he said in his review that the Aeolus is his favourite headphone from 2018. And he loved the 2C. He also said he might prefer the Aeolus to his Stax (LP700 I think?). I don't care much about YouTube reviewers, that is also just one person's opinion but I was hoping perhaps someone here with similar music taste could compare the Aeolus to Audeze (preferably to the 2C with a good system).

I was wondering if the headstrap shown on the Z Review going to be standard for the Aeolus. I was under the impression that it was going to be the usual straps like on the previous ZMF headphones. Personally, I like the idea of a bit more cushion on top.

It is available - we added the option at checkout on our site after you hit the add to cart button.

It should be noted that you'll lose 1-2 stops on the adjustment rod, so if you have a larger head, stick with the leather.

Hey Zach...When does the pre-order sale end? On Dec 16th? I'm still deciding whether to bundle or not.

Bern

This friday at midnight, but honestly I will let it run until saturday AM around 8am CST just to make sure everyone who wanted in had the chance.

Couldn't help but notice your post in this thread after our conversation in the LCD-2C thread. Have you checked out this review: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/zmfheadphones-aeolus.23472/reviews#review-21258? I haven't heard Aeolus myself, but from what the reviewer says, it does seem like there's a strong family resemblance between Aeolus and Atticus (the former being a true "Super HD650," he says). And since you mentioned how you "can't really go back to mid-bass emphasised dynamic drivers anymore, they just sound unnatural," you might be in for quite a re-adjustment with Aeolus! But again, I only have the Atticus and have zero experience with Aeolus, so I'm sure there will be others who could provide actual insights based on experience...

Thanks, I have read this review. This made me sign up to this thread and post. :)

Anyone compared this to LCD4 yet?
I don’t think you can get two more different headphones in terms of technology, build and sound signature. Not to mention price difference!

Yea, having owned an LCD-4 for awhile, they're on pretty different spectrums. I'd say a later model LCD3 might be the closest to an Aeolus, but even then they're two different animals.
