I’d also recommend reaching out to Zach. He’s great about making HP pad recommendations (& do nots) based on HP line-up design & his actual use case experience.
I was an early adopter of the Aeolus & switched from the stock pads based on his HP pad tuning feedback (which was spot on). It’s really about what you want less or more of while staying true to Aeolus character.
There are several old threads on his impressions of what pads to use to tune the Aeolus to your preference (barring the sound quality variables stemming from your equipment). See below...

The Universe suede pads will have:
1. Less/No mid-bass hump.
2. Flat bass down to 30 hz.
3. Less forward mids.
4. More open and high end extension due to less mids and bass and the added airflow by the use of suede.
5. Flatter FR with less 3-5K dip.
I'm not arguing with any of the above as related to the stock pads, I again just don't want someone reading this thread, who hasn't heard the Aeolus to think it's not capable of that type of sound before they try the available pads. I think @Hansotek defined it all very well in his post comparing pads.
Anyone who bought the Aeolus through us can definitely send us an email to get a discount code on Unvierse Suede perf pads so you don't have to pay full price for them.
I know the confusing thing about the Aeolus is the pad choices, while many have been extremely happy with the warmer stock pads I am not realizing what some people expected was a more linear headphone, the good news is that it exists with the Universe suede perf, the bad news is I know not all of you have those pads. I'd like to help!
@GU1DO I'd hate to see you give up on the headphones without hearing them with the earpad that's optimal for your tastes and them only being 1/4 burnt in. Send me an email or PM and I will help you out!

So someone tell me are these things better on tubes? I listen to these, the auteur, eikon and atticus today.
I'm totally sold on the auteur, they are fantastic for the price but something seemed off with the Aeolus on the chord hugo 2.
Is that viel lifted on tube or is it something that just stays regardless of amp/dac?
I love the sound stage and that thump from the bass but that clarity in the auteur is just so much better plus the speed.

The stock pads on both auteur and aeolus make the aeolus much warmer than auteur, but if you switch to universe suede or verite pads on the aeolus they are closer to each other but with other differences in timbre and FR.
The auteur sound cannot be replicated with the aeolus though, so if you liked it better, roll with it!

Thanks Zach, you will have a order coming through very soon either way. That tuning on those headphones are fantastic across what I tried, you've done a stellar job and I've recently tried the empyrean so that speaks volumes in my world. The stock pads on both auteur and aeolus make the aeolus much warmer than auteur, but if you switch to universe suede or verite pads on the aeolus they are closer to each other but with other differences in timbre and FR.

What do the verite pads change in the Aeolus sound?

What do the verite pads change in the Aeolus sound?
Verite pads bring the ear closer tot eh driver while keeping the same ear volume as the Universe pads - the sound is a little more intimate, and the FR is pretty dead flat with similar treble response 2K and up. It's a very neutral sound, but maybe a little boring for what most are looking for with the Aeolus. A nice OTL amp sounds great with the V pads as it adds a little zest - but by no means is a tube amp needed with the Aeolus.

I love my Chord Hugo 2, especially on the go, but I prefer more power to my Aeolus as with most of my other headphones, e.g., Violetric V280. I was looking at ZMF's Pendant tube amp and from the specs, it has more than enough power at 300 Ohms, 1.5 watts IIRC, which is more than the tube amps I've owned. Also, from the specs, the Mogwai Special Edition looks to be another top-notch build (can't comment on the sound but I bet it's amazing). I wanted to get out of the tube amp game as tube rolling can get pricey (and addicting), but I've given serious consideration to find a meetup or show that's in driving distance to hear the ZMF Pendant for 3 reasons.something seemed off with the Aeolus on the chord hugo 2
1. It looks the part of an awesome vintage looking/sounding headphone tube amp
2. The specs and build quality due to the A&S collaboration is another pro
3. I've heard it pairs amazingly well with all ZMF headphones
I am currently saving up for the Pendant, and will be purchasing one next month. I have been researching it non stop for the past year, and really think this is my endgame amp, for my ZMF cans. Seems more people are starting to realize that this amp is legit.I love my Chord Hugo 2, especially on the go, but I prefer more power to my Aeolus as with most of my other headphones, e.g., Violetric V280. I recommend making the trip if at all possible. I heard one at a local(ish) meetup & it was a phenomenal amp IMO. Gobs of power, especially for ZMFs which are relatively easy to drive considering the specs...all the ZMFs love good clean power though and scale well.I love my Chord Hugo 2, especially on the go, but I prefer more power to my Aeolus as with most of my other headphones, e.g., Violetric V280. Please let us know how you make out!
I had the most wonderful listening session with my Aeolus the other night (Gungnir D/S > ifi Pro iCAN). I popped on Pink Floyd "The Wall" and was just thoroughly entranced...this headphone has a way of speaking directly to my soul.

yup!
yup!
FedEx just dropped off my Aeolus LTD's and they're currently settling in with the GS-X Mk2. Upon first listen, they sound excellent. Very fun and engaging right off the bat, they make a very good first impression. The wood grain is incredible too, Zach & team did a really great job with these. The only downside is apparently my head is too small! Even on the shortest setting they're still a hair too big. I wish I would have sprung for the suede headband. Does Zach sell those and are they easy to install? I don't see them for sale on the website anywhere.

Glad you got them!
Send me an email and we can hook you up with a suede strap, you can also bend the headband to be a little flatter which might help temporarily until you get the suede strap.
