5R4 types will work with anything. No you don't need to stick with GZ34 or GZ32 for higher power stuff, you can use other rectifiers. Just need to be mindful of using GZ34 or GZ32 with certain low power output tubes.
Perfect, that’s what I was hoping. Does using higher-Vdrop rectifiers with something like 6550s limit the power of the output tubes or have any other downsides vs using something like a GZ34?

With a higher Vdrop rectifier, the peak power output will be slightly less, but that is power that no headphone will ever use. So no, there is no downside.
Well, I went on an eBay tube-buying spree and feel like I should have a good assortment to try in the Aegis whenever I get one.
I picked up the following:
2x RCA Red Base 5691
2x GE 6550
4x Ei KT90
1x Mullard GZ34
1x Brimar 5Y3GT
1x Chatham 5R4WGA
I also have a bunch of EL84 tubes to try in the amp. I’m going to try and track down some Mullard EL38s or EL39s in the next couple of weeks. The EL37 prices are a little too rich for my blood, so I’ll hold off on those. I bought 4 different pairs of Xuling adapters, so I should be prepared whichever output tubes I end up getting.
Has anybody heard these Ei KT90s in their Aegis? I know @L0rdGwyn was looking into get some at one point.
You can buy them in a one stop shop. Same UK seller. EL38 & EL39
Be aware that the glue on the EL39's can be delicate due to age! Check for lose bases & top caps and repair with superglue gel if necessary. Just apply so masking tape around areas you want to keep clean. There are a few you tube videos about it!

I ended up getting a pair of NOS EL38s from them. Ironically, I already had an offer to them before you recommended them. I feel more confident now that you have vouched for them, so thanks for the tip! I held off on the EL39s for now, but I did save the seller in case I get the itch later.

I also have bought tubes from that seller. Also recommended by @Toonartist. I got my EL38s and Brimar rectifier from them. They shipped out quick and the tubes were well packaged and arrived in great shape.

Yeah, they're one of the good ones. I tend to stick to 3-4 sellers that I trust... they've had one or two sales from me over the last couple of years or more
No, they are pentodes. Wired as triodes, they won't bias well in Aegis and are medium gain tubes, whereas Aegis requires high gain from the input stage.
Picked up a hanging filament Sylvania 5U4G, mostly for testing purposes. Sounds really nice with the Tung-Sol 6SU7GTY and Mullard EL37 with Atrium Open.
