Just Got the Mullard CV593!

Hey everyone,

I recently got my hands on the Mullard CV593. It sounds smoother than the stock rectifier, but don’t quote me on that—my audio memory isn’t the most reliable, so it might just be my perception. 😅

Since I can’t really distinguish the sound character between the Mullard and the stock rectifier, as long as it sounds good, has no noise, and looks good on my Aegis, I’m keeping it 🤪

Coke bottle is my favorite tube look indeed :)

Let the Mullard settle in and it’ll open up dramatically :)

Agreed. As long as it sounds good, I’ll decide if the tubes stay or not based on their look 🤪

If the CV593 is exactly the same as the GZ32 D getters, it’s impressive for me that I never needed to explore rolling more rectifiers. It has more than enough rectification for Susvara OG :)

According to ChatGPT:
The CV593 and the GZ32 are very similar, as both are rectifier tubes often used interchangeably in audio equipment, but there can be subtle differences depending on the manufacturer and production era. The CV593 is a military designation for the GZ32, and generally, the military versions like the CV593 are built to stricter quality standards.

As for the D getters, the getter type (D getter or otherwise) is often a feature of earlier production runs and can influence the sonic characteristics slightly. The D getters in older tubes are sometimes regarded as superior in sound quality, with a fuller or warmer tone, depending on your setup. However, this difference may be subtle and subjective. If your CV593 has D getters, it should perform similarly to the GZ32 with the same feature.
...and I have no idea what the D getters look like😅

Look at the bottom and if you see "D" then you have a D getter :)

…and I am not sure if I can hear the diiference 😂

It's my imagination between the two getters as well hehe. The tonality is exactly the same

When you put in a NOS tube, how long do you have to wait for it to settle in. When I changed out the my rectifier, I immediately knew the new sound was not there my liking and didn’t really want to wait it out to see if it improved. When I first put RCA 5691 the sound was only slightly different from the final result. So just wondering how much change to expect and how long it generally takes.

Less than a day for me. Maybe 10 hours of playback but the biggest change is after 2 hours of playback

Listening through my Atrium Open with the 6550's, I wasn't enterily happy with the Caldera Lambskin UP pads. Coming from the Cossor ATS25's, the bass now felt a little lackluster, even though the overall energy and oomph was very fun.

I then first tried changing to the Universe pads, and the lower bass started rumbling again, but I still can't stand the all too pronounced upper mids/lower highs that those pads exhibit no matter what tubes I use. I'm now trying the Auteur pads which I so far find much more enjoyable. They present a pleasantly large soundstage and boost the upper bass considerably compared to the Caldera UP's, but they do bring down that overall energy a bit. Will probably also try my so far somewhat unused Suede BE2 later on.

Has anyone tried the GL KT66 and can compare to other, NOS KT66s? Thanks!

I think you just have to buy them and compare with the GEC. I'm already set in stone with the TAD KT66 myself since it meshes so well with my system
