What is so hot about USB on a DAC?

Does my CD have USB?
My DVD?
My DAT?
My LD?

S/PDIF is the dedicated audio interface for consumers.

Unless they can do USB right. I'd just forget about it and save some $.

Yeah, let's hope it's a feature in future units, it would be nice to have. I have to say though, the Great-March has USB and while it is very convenient there isn't any huge sonic advantage over using Toslink or Coax (although there are minor notable differences). A true 12s USB connection is what would be awesome though.

True. Yet, from a convenience standpoint, it would be icing on the cake. From a laptop, usb would be ideal. Solutions exist however, and when the 2.0 is ready, I'll probably pick one up for the office. At that price point..with an amp...it's really a no-brainer.

And with that, for Uzziah, that's the end of my usb discussion in this thread.

Yeah, definitely get the upgraded headphone amp for sure, it really is quite good. Well, like I always say, with my HF-1's anyway it's excellent. Not sure what it sounds like with higher Z cans.

On a side note, I know most are interested in the BB 1794 DAC for the new 2.0 but from what I gather from Fan (dealer in China) is that chip option will not be available until June. However it sounds like the AD1852 and CS4398 chip options will be available in a couple weeks last I heard. So if true I guess people will be doing some waiting. I plan to get at least a couple of the 2.0's myself so I will likely get a CS4398 unit. Does anybody else have any further feelings about the AD1852 versus CS4398 versus BB1794? Isn't the CS4398 their flagship chip? And other than some comments here and there about the 1794 in the CI VDA2 DAC, is this DAC chip really considered stellar?

If you don't know which house sound of DAC chips you like, then you should get all 3

What are the differences between 1794, Ad-1852 and 4398?
Is there a post explaining this?

We're not sure what their sonic differences are so who knows. I think the CS4398 is their flagship chip but who knows what it sounds like in the Zhaolu. Sounds like the 1794 will not available until June though.

There will be a US dealer soon and an announcement is coming any day. This dealer will offer warranty and service and units will ship from here in the states to customers rather than from overseas if you desire to go this route.

Thanks Sean H. I actually was planning on buying it today from Eddie, but if they sell it in the states... then i guess i'll wait a little longer.
Looks as if the CS 4398 is used in the micro dac-home dac. The PC1794 is used on the VDA-2. The current 1.3 has a AD 1854 dac... the same used in the 2X version
