Hello and how is everyone,

I currently using a pair of Sennheiser HD 490's. And think there utterly awful. I want to upgrade to a better set, but dont know what headphones I should get or even search for.

I own a TB Santa Cruz Soundcard, and will be using the headphones on that in conjunction with a Amp by either Mr.JMR or a Head Room one.

I have about $100 to play with, give or take a bit for my upgrade.

Currently Im looking into the Sennheiser HD 497's, aswell as the Sennheiser HD 535's.

Ive read reviews on both sets, and look good, but everyone knows its the people and users that give the honest and best opinions.

I mostly will be using these for gaming, Heavy Metal, Classical, and my DVD movie's. Bass is important to me if thats anything, and I would like a set that doesnt distort on BASS intensive music pieces like NIN, or Classical Bass music like Han Zimmer's "Barbarian Horde". My Sen 490's are utterly useless in this department, and distort every chance they get too.

So, if anyone has any ideas on a good set, $100 range, that doesnt distort on BASS, and sounds nice with a Altoid or HeadROOM Amp.

Important factor is the least amount of outside noise it makes. My family doesnt like the noise, and neither does my job, so something that I can have rather loud, with little leak out is a plus.

I know this question is probably been asked here a 1000 times, and I appoligize.

Thanks a ton in advance, and most appreciated.

does it have to be sennheiser?
I mean, I have two sennheiser headphones so it isn't that I am trying to chase you away, but looks like you might be looking for something more along the lines of the sony V6.

yeah, you're talking about low noise leakage. that sounds like V6 territory to me as well.

No, it doesnt have to be Sennheiser.. heh. Its just thats the only head phones I looked into.

Sony V6's, Ill look those up on their site. Does it have a good BASS output with low distortion, and how do they sound , quality wise to Sennheisers or Grado's of equal price.

Hmm, are the Sony V7000DJ's a better model than the V6, sound quality, and leakage wise?

found this review of them, they say the BASS is awful some of the reviewers.

I found a reseller online for $59+9 shipping for the V-6000 new in box, and $109+9 shipping for the V7000DJ's , full retail, new in box.

Im just worried that whatever I get, is going to distort badly in BASS pieces. I guees Im still tramatized by the HD 490's.

Anyone else can recommend anything, or give more heads up on the V6's performance?

Ack. No. They're better only if you prefer your music to sound boomy and hollow, and many dj's do so I guess it's approriately named.

I've heard a couple of their earbuds aren't bad, but the V6/7506 is definitely the only low end Sony headphone worth considering. Click my link below to find the best price on it.

haha, whoa.. wait 'til gluegun spots this thread.

orrimarrko - DO NOT confuse the Sony V6 with the V600s or 700s, there is a world of difference.

One world is a world of torture, hate and pain, the other is a world of enjoyment, happiness and bunnies...

Um.. apply whichever world you'd prefer to the V6, which may be confused with the 7506 as they are the same headphone.

Apply whichever world you would rather not endure and that's the VXXXDJ range

DJ Tiesto was in Perth over the weekend, and he used the V700DJ.

Actually they don't look too bad on his head. On mine I just look plain foolish.

His beatmixing was fine, and he didn't skip a beat. So that's what they're good for.

He spent a good time with them off his head, waving his hands about and enjoying the music thru the booth monitors...

Hey Snufkin---

I love the V6s, but have not found the bunnies so far. Any trick to it?

Orrimarko, the 497s are not that noisy, but the V6s are amazingly silent in comparison. The 497s failed the Sitting In Same Room With Mean Girlfriend As She Watches TV test, but the V6s (and the wretched Koss Plugs) are the only phones to pass this rigorous test.

The V6s have excellent bass. They sound ideal for your purposes and go for $55 here in NYC at Etronics, a store on Essex Street on the lower East Side of Manhattan. (2 blocks south of the F train stop.) Call ahead to make sure they are in stock and so they can hold a pair for you at the showroom. Get em if you can!

I've got a Santa Cruz, and it works GREAT with my Sennheiser hd565's... if you can score a pair off of Ebay, do so. Otherise, get the HD497's or the Philips SBC-HP890's...

In a few hours, when I get home, I'll post a few links to some threads of mine at some DJ forums talking about why the V700DJ's suck, and what's good for djing, if you want.

*Pause*

Oh, wait, Etronics, the cheapest places to get the MDR-V6's that *I* know of (online or off) apparently is a local store where you are... go pick em up for $55, and get yourself a good set of durable, closed cans. you can worry about open later...
