Classic Rock/Pop (70s and prior): Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
I'm still a newbie in this music era, so i'm listing my favorite based on listening to my parents albums as a kid.

80s Rock/Pop: U2 - With Or Without You
So many good ones to choose from, but this is my favorite song from what is definitely one of the top 5 rock albums of the decade.
Runner's up would include Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark, Tears for Fear's Head over Heels, Pet Shop Boys' What Have I Done To Deserve This?, Smith's How Soon Is Now?, etc. There are too many to list really.

Recent Rock/Pop (90's to present): R.E.M. - Losing My Religion
This is a really well crafted single, that's for sure. I can never resist singing along when it plays. New Order's Regret is quite good also, and much by Nirvana and Pearl Jam would compete well here too.

Electronic/Electronica: Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy
This is considered one of the premier songs in all of Trip-hop. Since trip-hop is my electronica of choice, this song goes here. Other good ones include Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express, New Order's Blue Monday and Bizarre Love Triangle, EBTG's remixed Missing.

Country: ---

Folk: ---

Vocals/BigBand/Jazz Vocals: Ella - Too Darn Hot
I'm just getting into Jazz, and this is my current favorite.

Soul/Classic R&B: ---

Rap/HipHop: 2 Live Crew - Me So Horny (hehe, just kidding)

Metal: ---

Industrial: NIN - Dead Souls (JD version is much better though)

OVERALL FAVORITE: Joy Division/New Order - Ceremony
Sure it's not listed above but who cares?

It's my favorite song for some reason. I don't know why, but I can't get enough of it.

Well, I'll be....(!)

Someone with as wide a taste in music as myself! (an most of it, not that bad :p ) And here, I thought I was the only one on this list that ever heard of Alison Krauss (another reminder why I shouldn't gamble

Well she does seem to be doing pretty good on the sales charts, so she'll probably be pretty recognized real soon

macDEF,

Wonderful post.

Big plus factor was DarkAngel mentioning Bauhaus had almost forgotten they existed. Checked CD library and had none - have to remedy that this weekend (got the majority of their vinyl but no deck to play it on
frown.gif
)

Find it hard to provide a list cos the majority of the stuff i would nominate could not be listened to on anything coming close to audiophile equipment. But i'll try anyway

50's : Louis Jordan - Saturday Night Fish Fry
60's : A late Fats Domino? if not just one of the multitude of tap your foot singles
70's : God Save the Queen - Sex Pistols (i assume we're talking events in ones life - not audiophile qualities)
80's : Living At the Edge - Stiff Little Fingers
90's : Pretty much an abysmal decade (don't get me wrong there was some good stuff - but we're talking 10 years here)
00's : i do like the Strokes CD

Thanks, silk. I had the same response to DarkAngel -- I had forgotten about Bauhaus. I have four of their CDs, plus some Tones on Tail. DA's post made me grab them off the shelf and take a listen
