Awesome, that album is great--can't say I was wild about if_then_else outside of Amity and Analog Park but almost everything on Nighttime Birds rules, especially On Most Surfaces and the title song.

Nattens Madrigal (Ulver)
Themes From William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven & Hell (Ulver)
Still Life (Opeth)
Sideshow Symphonies (Arcturus)
Blood Inside (Ulver)

Just ordered the first three online, everything I've "legally downloaded" from them rocked. The last two were Christmas presents, and I'd really enjoy them both except the production on them is horrible--that coming from a man who just paid actual money for Nattens, too. Oh well.

Can I list 12 new ones?
Motley Crue - Dr Feelgood
Sammy Hagar - The Essential Red Collection
The Allman Brothers Band - A Decade of Hits
The Beach Boys - Sounds of Summer
Duran Duran - Greatest Hits
John Denver - VH1 Behind the Music
Sugarland - Twice the Speed of Life
Count Basie - Kansas City Powerhouse
Golden Earring - The Continuing Story of Radar Love
George Stait - Honkytonkville
Kentucky Headhunters - Still Pickin'
and the soundtrack to Oh Brother Where Art Thou which I already had in single layer SACD, but the wife wanted one to play in the car.

Nice haul for $2.77 each. BMG owed us 12 free ones.

Gotta love used stores

I haven't spent enough time with either yet to decide how I like them in comparison to [Mandylion], my benchmark Gathering album. Fortunately for me, it takes pretty huge shifts in sound (rather than just evolution) to make me start to dislike a band I once liked--Theatre of Tragedy comes to mind here.

Payday's tomorrow... we all know what that means

Barhopping?

Oh.

Planet and Nighttime Birds are starting to overtake it in my book, but Mandylion is still great--I'm especially fond of Eleanor and Sand & Mercury. If you don't already have it and end up liking Amity and Analog Park then I'd recommend Souvenirs, the whole album is full of low-key songs like that. A couple of weak tracks and a few super-sharp sibilants you could hear with Walkman pack-ins but the awesome duet with Garm on the last song more than makes up for it.

Ian Dury and the Blockheads - What a Waste
Bloc Party - Tulips (Club Version)
Test Icicles - Circle Square Triangle (James Ford/MC Lars remixes)

Mandylion was the first Gathering album I bought, so I think I'll always have I soft spot for it. I've already got Souvenirs, really like it. Planet I think is the only Anneke-era Gathering album I still need (Sleepy Buildings wasn't a studio release, was it?), barring this forthcoming release I keep hearing whispers of.

Any of them, really, make for a very nice change of pace from the power metal-and-industrial diet I'm often on
