she's been doing that for a while now but I agree it's kinda dorky, to us anyway but to thoes who don't know what it is it'll look kinda cool

Makes more sense than using a certain part because it looks "cool" in a project and not because it is better suited for the purpose than a lower cost option.
At least there it is called "jewelry" and not "upgrade" which is true in both cases

I wonder if you can get the necklace in power resistor formats, pretty useful if you have lots of electro-static

Why do you say that? Those warnings are required in California, and since everything is known to give you cancer you see it a lot (on a great many buildings too).
