You know it's time to move when...

Your local baseball team has the chance to go to its first World Series in 58 years, and possibly win its first in 95 years...

Your team is up, three games to two...

Your team is leading Game 6 by a score of 3-0 with two outs in the 8th with their best pitcher on the mound... If they win, they go to the Series...

A fly ball is hit in your direction...

The left fielder has a shot at making the catch, ending the inning, leaving your team three outs from winning the game...

You decide that trying to get a souvenir is more important than ending 95 years of frustration, so you try to reach out and catch the ball...

You miss the ball, but in the process you prevent the left fielder from making what ends up being a sure catch...

Your team goes on to lose, 8-3...

Your picture is shown, over and over, on national TV.

As a human being, I feel sorry for this guy.
As an intelligent human being, I keep saying to myself "What the hell was he thinking?
As a lifelong Cubs fan, I wanted to kill him myself!

I know Mac. I think you, me, and just about any other Cub fan out there had the pop knocked out of them when that fan reached out there. And then Gonzalez bobbled an easy inning-ending double play. And then the hits started coming. And the runs.

I want to believe the "curse" is gone. But something inside me tells me that satan himself may have taken residence in that fan's body for that play. That or the spirit of the Billy Goat.

I'm giving up opera tickets to be at home to watch the game. I really thought they were going to take it tonight. I thought so up until the "fan interference" play. Right after that I started to get this sinking feeling. The closest thing I can relate it to is that certain feeling right before you are going to get dumped by someone you love.

But I'm not giving up on the Cubbies yet. We'll just have to see what happens tommorrow.

On an interesting note...

For those of you who remember Back To the Future part II, the sports almanac said that the Cubs would win the World Series in 2015. And there is a discussion in there that said they had just beaten "that Florida team", and the Marlins were not yet introduced into the league until after the movie was made. I guess it would be more interesting if this were 2015 or if the movie had said the year would be 2003. But it's still kind of eerie...

Oh, and I apologize if I'm going off on a tangent here... but I'm getting really sick of the Fox Network's coverage of the playoffs. First, the green screen with the advertisements behind the hitters needs to go. It pisses me off endlessly. And it's only there during Fox broadcasts. It defiles the beauty that is Wrigley Field. Next, Fox seems to have this ability to change the scheduled times of the games in order to fit it better into their broadcast schedule. That annoys me greatly. It worries me that sooner or later Fox is going to start manipulating things like McMahon manipulates the WWF. Lastly, in all the previous games, they did not show the seventh inning stretch and the renditions of "take me out to the ball game". However, surprise surprise, Bernie Mac, whose new sitcom is on the Fox Network, gets plenty of screentime when he sang during the seventh inning stretch tonight.

Sorry, I'm just a little upset, and needed to vent.

How, and why he was allowed to exit the stadium alive, and wasnt literally torn to shreds, is beyond me! And those who attended the game call themselves true Cub fans???
I sat here watching it on the tv in absolute and complete disbelief. That clearly cost them the game and now, likely the entire series. Mind boggling.

LobsterSan, I had the same "sinking" feeling as you after the fan stole the out and Gonzalez fumbled the easy grounder.

Yeah, but only one actually touched it and took the out away

It was funny (in a sad way) -- one of the announcers mentioned (originally) that the fan was escorted out "for interfering with the play." I was yelling at the TV, "No, you idiot, it's because they want him to walk out alive!!!"

They said they escorted him out with a towel over his head. Someone will have his picture and name all over the place soon if not already. He's off the hook if we take game 7 IMO.

I'm sorry for all you Cubs fans. However, I believe that Pryor should have been pulled out a little sooner. The guy is a great pitcher, but he looked really tired.

Dusty Baker tends to do that: He leaves pitchers in too long!

Ha brilliant, grinch! I love the reaction from the fielders. I wonder how Red Sox fans would have reacted at Fenway. I'm not a huge (regular season) baseball fan but it's wierd - I thought Cubby fans were notorious for throwing balls back at visitors. Why would they care about this one then? That's just bad timing for fan interference.

I think that's a "hindsight" criticism. Had Alou been able to catch that ball, there would have been two outs. Had Gonzalez not made the error on the easy grounder, the inning would have been over regardless (double-play ball). Only one run scored with Prior on the mound, if I remember correctly.

You also have to remember that the Cubs have the worst bullpen in the playoffs, and that Prior generally pitches as long as he did in that game.

P.S. My initial post was slightly incorrect. There was only one out, not two, when the fan screwed us
