I have a pair but hardly used them after I got my Shure SE846's. Getting acclimated with them again. They sound superb with the Kann but I wanted to find out more about this Alpha Pad Mod for the SRH1540's.I don't mind at all. They're pretty efficient so they don't really need an amp. I normally use them with a Dragonfly Red and my iPhone. But honestly, sometimes I just use them straight out of my iPhone because slightly underpowering them keeps the bass reigned in. The only negative is it also decreases the soundstage a little. They're great cans and one of the most comfortable I've ever worn as well. Only second in comfort to the 800/800S.

Never felt the need to mod them as I really like their sound signature, and I love their stock alcantara pads, too. I once tried the HM5 pads just for fun, but it negatively affected their sound. I've never heard the SE846's, as I don't really like iem's.
Gotcha, They took a while to get used to.
