The PPX3 with the HD650 is a really special combo. The stock tubes (EI) are very good. If you want to try something different 20-30 bucks will get you an RCA cleartop for the gain tube and you will have something a little different. (better to my ears). If you never buy any other tubes the stock EI tubes will be just fine.
You will spend so much time staying home and listening to music with this system, in the long run, you will be saving money.

6cg7's are cheap and a great tube to enter the hobby with, though it's pretty unanimous that the RCA cleartop is the best and there's not much experimentation to be had. however for me, i just like having a sound and not ever ever changing it once i'm satisfied
