Hello head-fi'ers,

I am currently looking for an upgrade to my EPH-100 but want the same quantity bass with better quality, tightness. Same amount of treble. I cannot stand before sibilance or harsh treble at all. Do not want recessed mids also. Want equal or better separation.

Don't know which IEM to go for now.

Thank you whitefroded for the heads-up. Have you listened to the EPH-100 before?

The UM3X, Grado GR10, Sony EX1000 and RE272 willbe better upgrade and they all offers pro and cons compare to Yamah EPH100 and some may not have same bass amount but adding AMPs will help them greately to increase bass.

I'd never heard the bass of balanced armature based IEMs, but from what I've read the dynamic driver based IEMs have better bass.

Anyways there's a long debate on that matter :

But I think that if you loved the bass eph-100, you might want to stay with dynamic driver.

Well not necessarily, a lot of dynamic driver IEM might have more quantity but a lot of BA based IEM's have better quality imo and a good quantity.  The SM3 for example has a good amount of bass imo and they can go down pretty deep especially with bass boost on an amp like the C&C BH or FiiO.  My e-Q5's bass sounds a lot like a quick dynamic driver because of the moving armature they use which has a bigger diaphragm than normal BA's.

Anyways the k3003  combine both technology Balanced armature and dynamic driver, and the dynamic driver part is used to produce bass, proof that the technology is better for the bass lovers.

@Techno Kid

I see that you own many numbers of IEM so if you could suggest me something based on the sound preferences I am looking for? Which one do you think would be the closest to what I am looking for in an IEM?

Well the SM3 has good bass imo with plenty of punch and good depth but I have to tell ya now that I got a pair of Ortofon e-Q5's again I think they sound as good and even better in some cases as the SM3 and UM3X.  They're warm yet brighter than the SM3 and UM3X with mids that sound ever bit as good as the other 2 and they also have a spacious soundstage and good 3D imaging.  For either around $165 or $198 depending on where you get them are a great value and have truly top-tier sound and build quality.

I know I'm pushing the e-Q5 hard but I really think they're that good but the SM3 and e-Q5 are pretty much equal as far as sound quality goes though the e-Q5 has much better build quality.  So I think for what you want either the e-Q5 or SM3 would be a great choice.
