I hope this hasn't been posted before, but I was wonder what you guys think?  I think in a way they failed as they seem to strongly believe "more drivers must be better".

I think most of us on head-fi can do MUCH better recommendations.  Possibly write better articles too...

They're just trying to cite a fact without getting too technical. We know that single-driver IEMs can sound very good, but to qualify that, we'd need to explain balanced armature vs dynamic drivers. And even then we'd stop to point out how single BA units like the Etymotic line can beat out a fair number of dual driver IEMs.
 
The article's rule of thumb is crude, but effective.
