I've been reading that the xonar essence st / stx line are the cat's pajamas. Only probloem is I can't find a single model that has a digital optical connection? WHY? I've had cheaper, lesser cards like the auzentech that had optical connections. This doesn't make sense to me.

Both the ST and STX have a S/PDIF out which supports TOSlink, though you may need that little adapter thing. It also has an internal header for HDMI audio to your video card, if you want to use that.

st / stx actually has a coax/optical combo out and a mini-toslink <--> toslink adapter included.
Isn't it a Coax spdif? SO the adapter you're talking about is for Coax to optical? (right side)

As mentioned above, it is a Coaxial/TOSlink combo output. Apparently the adapter for coaxial to optical is included.

Yes, is comes with an adapter that turns the S/PDIF coaxial output to a S/PDIF optical output.

Once the card is powered on you can clearly see that it's an optical output due to the bright light coming out of it.
The adapter is just a little piece of plastic to hold the plug in place.

TOSlink optical output is located inside a coaxial, just the way it was implemented in 1/8"/optical combo out.

Very cool I've never seen that, thank you.
